22.01.2022 SUMMER IS COMING! GET YOUR MOLES CHECKED! Mole Mapping WA provides a state of art service for patients to see if any skin spots or moles are cancerous. Our team of doctors are highly qualified and experienced in diagnosing and treating skin cancers. Equipment Used: 1. FotoFinder is a digital mole mapping system that takes high-resolution digital photographs and uses sophisticated software to monitor your moles. It compares a series of photographs to your baseline photos allo...wing for the early detection of new or changing moles. 2. Full Skin Check Why is it important to monitor changes in moles? Melanoma is a skin cancer that commonly develops in melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin or pigment for the skin, hair and eyes. Melanocytes also form moles, and while most moles do not become melanoma they are also the most common place for melanoma to form. If a mole is changing it could be a sign of melanoma. Early detection of melanoma is very important as it has a cure rate of over 95% when found in its early stage. Am I a candidate for digital mole mapping? If you meet any of the criteria listed below, you are at higher risk for melanoma and should consider digital mole mapping: Multiple moles on your body A history of melanoma in your family A previous melanoma diagnosis A previous diagnosis of dysplastic moles Large and/or oddly shaped moles Noticeably changing moles A history of severe, blistering sunburns during childhood or adolescence Very light skin/pale complexion Who will be taking the photographs and who will examine them? A female medical assistant will take your photographs, which will then be stored in a secure server. Your Skin Specialist will review your photographs, analyze any changes and discuss them with you during your full body skin exams. How often should digital mole mapping be performed? Digital mole mapping should be performed every 6 to 12 months as recommended by your doctor. CALL 6364 0484 TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT

19.01.2022 Are vaccines unsafe? This immunisation myth is busted. Here in Australia, all vaccines must pass stringent safety testing by the Therapeutic Goods Administration before being approved for use. If you have concerns the best person to discuss them with is your GP, who can answer any questions you have in more detail. Call 6364 0484 to make an appointment

19.01.2022 As we are Celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Please see below a personal story from one of our much loved patients here at Harvest Lakes. I have never met anyone so strong and determined. Can say that this patient is CANCER FREE!!! <3 A 30th Birthday to Remember 10 days after my 30th birthday I was diagnosed with Hormone receptor positive Stage 3 Breast Cancer - needless to say it wasn't the best present I received. Given my family history (my Grandad, Aunties and ... great grandfather all had some form of Cancer) and the fact that I had earlier tested positive for the BRCA1 gene I guess I knew it was coming but never thought I would be diagnosed so early on in my life. Just because you are aware of Cancer doesn't make you immune! Unlike other stories I have read, I wasn't the one who initially found the lump, in fact I didn't even notice it. I felt fine, great even and certainly didn't have any symptoms that screamed 'Breast Cancer'. My boyfriend was annoying me by poking me around the breast area and that's when he found a small pea sized lump in my right breast.- it was barely even 2cms. That was on a Friday and by Monday I was diagnosed. 3 weeks later I was having Chemo - 11 rounds of gruelling Chemo to be exact followed by double mastectomy. And like going through Breast Cancer wasn't enough there was also the additional fear of COVID-19 as my diagnosis was the same time as the start of a global pandemic - talk about timing! I started Chemo in early April and by mid-August I had finally finished my course. Thankfully, my boyfriend found the lump early because tests showed that it was growing at an alarming rate (87%) and it had the potential to spread to other organs. I have recently completed a double mastectomy and am now thinking about my Ovarian health because being BRCA1 positive I also have a higher rate of presenting with the disease. Next Monday I visit my Oncologist and I am hoping he will confirm that I am finally Cancer free. After 7 months of scans, needles, medications, poking and prodding I just want to feel normal for a bit. My advice to other young women is to be extremely vigilant with your female health. It's not enough to know the symptoms you need to speak up when you find them. You need to get on top of Cancer before it gets on top of you. Check all the time, monthly, weekly, daily, whatever you need to do and if you find even the smallest lump or bump get it checked professionally. You have every right to have a mammogram and certainly if you are BRCA positive like myself you should be having them religiously. Don't make my mistake, don't wait, don't delay and certainly don't think you are too young. You are never too young for Breast Cancer. XX
