25.01.2022 AGE NO BARRIER The Binningup Silver Salties are proving that age is just a number, as they take part in WA’s only senior surf lifesaving series. The new program consists of water and land exercises and encourages people over 65 to stay physical, socialise and have fun.... Binningup Surf Club president Julie Doyle said she was delighted with the turnout and hoped it gave the participants confidence and reassurance.

A loyal user of the Australind train service, who uses the train so much she had the Cookernup station formally named after her, has spoken out about how its suspension has left her feeling upset and lost.... Cookernup resident Shannon Winduss catches the Australind up to three times a week. However, Miss Winduss will now be unable to use the train until the new year after it was taken off the tracks after a collision with a car. 14.01.2022 GIRL FALLS FROM CAR IN PINJARRA Major Crash Investigation officers are investigating an incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning, 27 November 2020 in which a 15-year-old girl was seriously injured. About 1.25am, a white Holden Commodore was travelling along Padbury Road in Pinjarra when a girl fell from the top of the boot area, hitting her head on the roadway.... The 15-year-old girl was conveyed by ambulance to the Peel Health Campus before being transferred to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment of a serious head injury. The 17-year-old female driver is currently assisting police with their inquiries. Major Crash Investigation officers are urging anyone who saw this incident, or the Holden Commodore being driven in the area prior to the crash, is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

11.01.2022 HARVEY SHIRE ‘CLEANEST’ IN THE REGION Despite reports of illegally-dumped litter appearing across the Shire of Harvey, those who are using bins are disposing of their rubbish correctly, according to a recent audit conducted in the South West. Harvey shire residents are officially the cleanest in the region after a waste examination report confirmed they had the lowest contamination rates of all participating councils.... Their Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) bin contamination rate sat at just 0.4 per cent, which was well below any of the other councils in the South West.

07.01.2022 HARVEY SHIRE FIRE BAN The Shire of Harvey authorised Chief Bush Fire Control Officer Mick Papalia has declared a ban on the use or operation of engines, vehicles, plant or machinery from 12 noon Thursday, 7 January to 12am Saturday, 9 January. This ban will be reviewed at 3pm on Friday, 8 January and further advice will be issued as required.... Activities not permitted during the period of the ban: Harvesting operations are not permitted. Any hot works (e.g. welding, grinding, cutting, heating etc) in the open air are not permitted. Other use or operation of any engine, vehicle, plant, equipment or machinery in the area likely to cause a bush fire or contribute to the spread of a bushfire.

04.01.2022 VOLUNTEERING DRIVE COMES TO HARVEY Would you be keen to volunteer?? This is for you! The Harvey Shire Council has partnered with Volunteer South West to encourage more people to give back to the community and lend a hand.... A sum of $5000 was injected into the initiative by the council, which aims to grow the volunteering landscape in Harvey. The group, which operates in Bunbury, will now also run an office out of the Harvey Community Resource Centre and work with not-for-profit groups in the region.
