24.01.2022 IRONMAN POSTPONED The flood recovery has forced the Ironman Australia triathlon, which had been set down for May 2 in Port Macquarie, to be postponed. The event... will now be held on Sunday September 5th. The regional director of Ironman Australia, Chris Jarvis, says the decision has been made in conjunction with the Port Macquarie Hastings Council. "We were in the community last week after unpredented events after all the floods... and came to the conclusion the community really needs to focus on recovery events... there is a long road ahead," he said. "So we will hold it later in the year when we can all celebrate and join in the fanfare of the event. "At the end of the day people's livelihoods is the most important first and foremost...we are doing our best to put on as many races as we can as we all navigate what has been a tricky 18 months bewteen fires, Covid and now the floods."

09.01.2022 Education and voice of reason inspire students to question what legacy they wish to leave behind Hastings Secondary College have been lucky enough to secure a presentation by Andrew Fisher, a racing car driver who presents across the country for the Life Choices Foundation. Westport Campus Year 9 students participated in the program today. Andrew challenged teens to stop and think through the consequences of some of life’s significant choices, for themselves. He encouraged s...tudents to choose the path that is ‘right’ for them. Andrew spoke from the heart about issues that are real to young people today including addiction, social media, relationships, road safety, values and beliefs. As an added bonus Andrew brought along one the team’s replica race cars for the students to see and hear. There was lots of excitement when the engine roared. 08.01.2022 Please meet Karen Noble from Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus, where they run a Creative Industries Academy. As a part of their learning, art s...tudents produce an artwork for exhibition and display to a wider audience, and what better than ArtWalk 2020 for this opportunity for the students to be a part of. Karen says she is most looking forward to seeing the students artworks displayed! This year, they have based their sculptures on Audrey 2, the man-eating plant from Little Shop of Horrors. They are a delightful combination of exotic flora and terrifying carnivore. Definitely a case of "Don't Touch"! The Creative Industries Students are self-driven learners; meaning they lead their own learning in the course - they assess themselves and even write their own reports. The school is building their skills to be creative and critical thinkers and integral future leaders who can self-assess and forge paths to achieve their goals. As a class, they studied Little Shop of Horrors from a creative industries perspective before breaking off in to our sub-groups to engage in their practical tasks. Artists looked at carnivorous plants, their colours and habits before making armatures and using paper mache techniques to construct their sculptures. For those who attended ArtWalk last year, you will recall seeing the Illuminated Jellyfish displayed, we can't wait to see what the Creative Industries Academy create this year at HEM Property on Horton Street, Port Macquarie!
