10.01.2022 The staff at Hawaiki College, understand the importance of all three of these elements and when we write our curriculum, have these are the forefront of our planning. The staff don't just work at planning, developing and implementing curriculum for only our college, we are always looking at ways of supporting our colleagues and families in other schools to have the knowledge and skills to enable students to not just survive, but to thrive. One of our current projects is wor...king to have our languages recognised by the Australian Curriculum. We are waiting in a response to progress this forward. The structure of Hawaiki College gives us flexibility to teach language without it being a part of the Australian Curriculum as an additional teaching option. However, for those that will not have the opportunity to attend our program when it opens, wouldn't it be incredible to know that Te Reo Maori, Gagana Samoa and other languages could be options for schools to teacher and students to learn. At Hawaiki College, our first conversation always, is in regards to how we can most respectfully teach and learn, and demonstrate the upmost respect and care for the traditional custodians of the land on which we stand, learn and teach. We do this through ongoing conversation with members of community and understanding frameworks and ways of working.
