19.01.2022 5 interesting facts about your eyes: Your eyes are made up of more than 2 million working parts. The human eye will focus on about 50 things per second.... Your eyes actually see images upside down and then they send these images to the brain where they are flipped around correctly for us. The human eye can distinguish about 2.7 million different colours and 500 shades of grey. The human eye can process 36 000 pieces of information every hour. (Source: Optometrists Association Australia) So...maybe it IS time for that annual check-up?

05.01.2022 One of the questions we frequently get asked at the practice is "Can pregnancy affect my vision?" The answer is yes. Changes in hormones, metabolism, fluid retention, and blood circulation can all affect your eyes and your eyesight during pregnancy. Water retention, for instance, may cause the thickness and curvature of the cornea of your eye to increase slightly. Its a small change, but it could affect how well your glasses or contacts correct your vision. You may find that... your eyes are drier and more irritated during pregnancy (as well as during breastfeeding). This, along with subtle changes in the shape and thickness of the cornea, may contribute to some difficulty wearing contact lenses that were once comfortable. Pregnancy isnt a great time to invest in a new pair of glasses, though. In most cases, these changes are temporary and will reverse themselves within several months of delivery.
