24.01.2022 Hawks Nest Golf Club not only conducted a fabulously run golf day - but the celebrations continued with Peter Sterling giving his lively talk on life in the sporting media; Craig Parry and his son Brendan Parry; Mick Liubinskas son of board member Bob; Tony Townsend & loveable larrikin Doug Walters, no explaining this legend, enjoying the afternoon's events in the Clubhouse. Tony Townsend, an original Knights player, kindly donated his framed Knights jersey realising over $3...,000 for the appeal! Local agent John Rumble conducted a lively auction of donated goods to a near full to capacity in the Clubhouse. A wonderful & successful day for our Tea Gardens / Hawks Nest community and our local RFS!

We are thrilled to now present to you our lovely new carpet, paint work and the opening of the new and exciting "Rusty Pelican Cafe". Our staff, Board Members & some very generous member volunteers have been extra busy over the COVID lockdown period & the Club looks a treat! Don't forget the "Sun Bistro" is also now open and ready to serve their popular delicious menu. One of the auction items at the Hawks Nest Golf Club Bushfire Charity Auction is an original 1988 Knights training shirt/jumper signed by all the players of that inaugural year. This unique item has been kindly donated by Tony Townsend who played hooker in that Knights team.. The auction will begin after the conclusion of the morning golf bushfire charity event at the Hawks Nest Golf Club at approximately 1pm Friday 17th January. All proceeds to Tea Gardens/Pindimar and North Arm Cove RFS and bush fire appeal.

12.01.2022 What an extraordinary day, what an extraordinary outcome and what an extraordinary contribution by the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest businesses and residential community! When Club President, Stephen Gately, announced the preliminary total raised of around $38,000.00 you could feel the satisfaction and excitement in the room as those present on the day realised and acknowledged the significance of the outcome which had been achieved. Mr Gately said the club was enormously proud ...of the lead role it had played in co-ordinating the efforts of golfers, the community and the local businesses to come together for such a worthwhile cause. Only 10 days in the making, this fund raising appeal had received extraordinary support from all levels and sections of our wonderful local community Mr Gately said. The generous support of local businesses either in the form of cash donations, prizes or items to auction or to raffle was central to the success of the day Mr Gately added. Mr David Bright, Captain of the Tea Gardens Pindimar Rural Fire Service said the members of both Rural Fire Services were enormously grateful for the funds that they will receive when the appeal fund is finalised over the next week or so. Mr Bright highlighted how the local Rural Fire Services would now be able to replace and repair equipment vital to their capacity to respond to bushfire incidents. A number of key celebrities participated in the day’s activities and were integral to the success of the day. Rugby League great, Peter Sterling; high profile professional golfer Craig Parry, as well as cricket legend Doug Walters gave the day a status rarely seen in our small community. Peter Sterling entertained the crowd with a stimulating and amusing address where he recounted a number of amusing sporting stories. All three of these sporting legends gave freely of their time to make the day such a success whether it was playing in the golf day, talking to people on the day or just offering photo opportunities, their presence was appreciated by all. In an interesting aside there was the golf event conducted on the day which was a fun four person Ambrose event. The event was won by local lads Warwick Jones, Jim Rutter, Tony Butler & Luke McCarthy with a nett score of 53.5. The runners-up were Craig Parry, John Rumble, Mick Rumble and Di Dickson Rumble with a nett score of 54. Third place went to Bill Gately, Warren Gorton, Peter Hudson & Tony Townsend with a nett score of 54.125.

Our visiting great Peter Sterling took time out to meet our Club Captain Les Miller's two young grandsons Josh & Luke, who had a very busy day being the "Fun Police" for the day. Riding in a golf cart with a charity bucket these young lads helped their "Pop" impose many a fine on the golfers around the course. 09.01.2022 Plenty of action on our Hawk’s Nest Golf Club course this week with the hosting of it's "20th Veteran’s Week of Golf"! The tournament this year has once again proven to be very popular with a capacity field of almost 340 golfers from 61 Clubs from Townsville in the north to Forbes in the west and Kiama in the south. In saying it's the "20th Veteran’s Week of Golf" it is worth noting that four of the starters George & Barbara Young Lees (Ryde Parramatta) and Gordon & Mari...a Mather (Shelly Beach) will be playing in this their 20th tournament. In fact Maria has spent her last 19 birthdays at the tournament! Seventeen other players will be competing for the 15th time or more, including Joe Zancolic (kiama), Ron & Brenda Poole (Belmont), Alec Cormack (Shelly Beach) and Peter & Janet Guy (Ryde Parramatta). Further evidence of the status that this week of golf has on the golfing calendar is that on Tuesday the President of NSW Veteran Golf Association, Ian Vidler and his wife Lyn, will be joining you on Tuesday and participating in the remainder of the event Our fantastic course Superintendent Ben Mills and his staff have again worked tirelessly to present the course in pristine condition for this event. 09.01.2022 Thanks to the 20 plus volunteers who turned up this morning and picked up sticks and branches. The job was done in around 2 hours which has allowed the greens staff to start the blowing, rolling, and mowing. The course is expected to be in great condition when it reopens for competition on Saturday.

From 7am the Lions Club will be cooking bacon & egg rolls ($4 per roll) with all proceeds going to support the appeal, The 4 person Ambrose will commence with a shotgun start at 8.30 am (currently full field) Big thanks to Peter Sterling, Doug Walters and Craig Parry for being a part of the day. CHARITY AUCTION: At the completion of the Charity Golf Event an auction will be conducted with all proceeds to go towards the appeal. It is anticipated that the auction will commence as soon as possible after the golf presentation 1.30pm to 2pm. Just remember you do not need to be a golfer to come down for the day!
