25.01.2022 We love seeing familiar faces in the clinic! We miss having Nel regularly around the practice. Were not too sure if she finds her new job as mum to these three cuties a welcome break from her days as our dental assistant.. or a little the other way around #supermum #schoolholidayfun

25.01.2022 Team duo effort - brother and sister, William and Georgia proud moment this morning with no cavities! Good job with the brushing guys

24.01.2022 How do you brush? Let's all admit it - we mindlessly brush. If all my teeth get a once over, all good right? WRONG We need to be focused when we brush and the same goes for your little ones, so here are our tips to change the way you brush this #dentalhealthweek2020... Make sure you're making the 2min mark! Don't press too hard on your teeth - if your toothbrush is worn out before 3 months you're doing it wrong. Eat healthy foods - foods that are LOW in SUGAR Let the little ones explore the tooth brush in their mouth - and then go over the areas again when they are finished to make sure all the surfaces are clean! Organise to visit your local dentist (Hawthorne Dental ) for regular check up and cleans

24.01.2022 When you cant choose a colour or two, why not just have them all Few months ago we spoke about how important it is to have a mouth guard. Today we are going to speak about how to take care of the mouth guard - patients need to take care by doing the following; rinse before and after each use or brush with a toothbrush and toothpaste.... occasionally clean the mouth guard in cool, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. transport the mouth guard in a sturdy container that has vents. make sure not to leave the mouth guard in the sun or in hot water check for wear and replace the mouth guard when necessary (NOTE: usually health funds will cover 1 mouth guard per calendar year)

24.01.2022 We now have a No Cavities Club wall. Dr Huy Tran is still a big kid at heart - just had his 6monthly check up and clean and he is in the all clear of no cavities!

21.01.2022 Dental Health Week this year is focusing on how to be sugar savvy! Having sugar is okay but make sure you are consuming less then 6 teaspoons per day and look out for hidden sugars when purchasing food or drinks and remember to brush and floss for 2 minutes morning and night! Stay tune for tomorrows post for tips on how to brush, especially for the kiddies!

19.01.2022 RIGHT CLICK or SCREENSHOT for reference. DID YOU KNOW? About 30% of children grind their teeth. WHEN SHOULD I SEE A DENTIST? -Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures - Pink nerve is able to be seen -Teeth are fractured and broken, or wiggly before they are due to fall out. - Jaw soreness & headaches - You little one snores, doesn't sleep well, and/or has sleep disturbances.

18.01.2022 Due to popular demand our stocking fillers are back for 2020! They are perfect gift ideas for the little members of the household. They are a great way to make teeth brushing time fun and interactive.

17.01.2022 DENTAL TIP The winter air is cold and dry! Plaque and bacteria love a dry mouth and there is less saliva to keep it from settling on your teeth or gums! Avoid this by drinking water frequently to keep your mouth moist and yourself hydrated

17.01.2022 It’s a bittersweet day at Hawthorne Dental as we say farewell and good luck to our amazing assistant, Ursula! We’re super sad she has to take some time off, but it just means it’s that much closer before we get to meet her little bubs! #hawthornedental #babyboom #weneedourownnursery

17.01.2022 TIPS ON CUTTING DOWN SUGAR: Toss the table sugar (white and brown), syrup, honey and molasses. Cut back on the amount of sugar added to things you eat or drink regularly like coffee or tea. Try cutting the usual amount of sugar you add by half and wean down from there. Swap out the soda. Water is best!... Eat fresh, frozen, dried or canned fruits. Choose fruit canned in water or natural juice. Avoid fruit canned in syrup. Compare food labels and choose products with the lowest amounts of added sugars. Add fruits. Instead of adding sugar to cereal or oatmeal, try fresh fruit (bananas, cherries or strawberries) or dried fruit (raisins, cranberries or apricots). Cut the serving back. When baking cookies, brownies or cakes, cut the sugar called for in your recipe by one-third to one-half. Often you wont notice the difference.

12.01.2022 It’s so important to start oral hygiene at a young age. Meet Kims 2 cheeky rascals - everyday, twice a day we battle with brushing the boys teeth. Some days are good, other days there are tears and tantrums. She has introduced using an electric toothbrush into their nightly routine and so far the boys love it! Here is a photo of them on the weekend at a retreat - Mama forgot their electric toothbrush at home (baby brain ) so they are having fun using an eco friendly toothbrush Kim’s Tip: let them explore and have fun brushing themselves first then asking them if mama can have a go brushing all the spiders away....so far it works!

11.01.2022 Flossing is just as important as brushing because it enables you to remove bacteria, plaque and food from between your teeth. This helps prevent tooth decay, bad breath and gum disease. However, flossing can be tricky! Which is why our dentists can show you ways to improve your technique at your next dental visit. In addition, we can show how to use devices such as piksters, internal brushes, Supa grip flosses for an easier alternative to conventional flossing. We also stock all these products for your convenience!

05.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? Regular use of dental floss removes plaque, helping to prevent the buildup of plaque, which can lead to tartar. Simply flossing your teeth can make them look brighter by removing plaque and excess food particles that you may not see in the mirror or in areas that your toothbrush doesnt reach. Think of a carpet before and after you vacuum. You may not really see the dust and dirt, but once you vacuum and the dust and dirt is removed, the carpet looks brighter. The same principle applies to flossing
