25.01.2022 Ballarat Essential Dental Monday Myth #3 Diet soft drinks are okay to consume because they dont have any sugar in them... Although they may contain less sugar, diet soft drinks still contain high levels of citric, carbonic, or phosphoric acid and can erode the surface of the tooth enamel, weakening the surface and increasing your risk of cavities!!!

23.01.2022 Ballarat Essential Dental Monday Myth #4 If gums are bleeding, brushing and flossing should not be done The opposite is true. Regular brushing and flossing is needed to remove plaque build-up which causes gum bleeding. Bleeding is a sign of gum brokerage, more care must be practiced to avoid harder treating oral problems!

18.01.2022 BED would like your support to keep the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Malcolm Turnbull has made it clear that he intends to axe funding to the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, a vital scheme that has already given more than a million Aussie kids free preventative treatment with their local dentist. By July it could be gone. All it takes is 20 seconds to have your voice heard! Sign the petition and show your government that our childrens health is not negotiable!... 09.01.2022 Ballarat Essential Dental are excited to offer a July special on Pola Day Take Home Tooth Whitening System for only $395. This includes a free consultation and assessment of your teeth to see if they are suitable for tooth whitening. Frequently Asked Questions Q. How long does it take to whiten my teeth?... A. Using a take home whitening system with custom fabricated trays, whitening can take approximately 5 14 days with the patient performing the treatment in the comfort of their own home. Q. Is the treatment safe? A. Yes. Clinical studies have shown that bleaching with Carbamide or hydrogen peroxide under the instruction of a dentist is safe for teeth and gums. Q. Are there any side effects? A. For patients who follow the instructions from their dentist and the instructions for use that come with the Pola products, the majority will have no side effects. However, some will experience temporary sensitivity (dull or sharp, sensitivity to hot or cold). This will subside after several hours of stopping the treatment and wont leave any residual problems. The wear times can be shortened or made less frequent or teeth can be treated with a desensitiser, SDI Soothe. Abstain from carbonated drinks, citrus foods and beverages to avoid sensitivity. Q. What if I have restorations in my teeth, will these change colour? A. Whitening will only change the colour of your natural teeth. Any restorations will not change colour and will need to be changed when the whitened teeth are lighter. Q. How long will the whitening treatment last? A. This depends on the patient and their oral habits. The average person will require periodic touch ups, once or twice a year. Without a touch up, your teeth will start to re-stain by the same things that caused them to discolour in the first place. Q. Can we predict a result? A. Not all cases are predictable. Speak to your dentist to discuss the cause of staining and which type of whitening would be best suitable to your needs. Q. Will my teeth just keep getting whiter the longer I use the gel? A. No they will reach a plateau. Whitening should be discontinued when the teeth do not appear to change any further or when desired shade is reached. It is important to follow instructions from your dentist. Using whitening products for longer than instructed can have harmful effects on the tooth structure. It is recommended to take photographs of teeth pre-treatment to use as a comparison throughout the whitening process.

06.01.2022 Ballarat Essential Dentals Monday Myth #2 Using a hard tooth brush will clean more thoroughly than using a soft tooth brush. " Although you may feel like you get a more effective clean using a toothbrush with hard bristles, you may actually be damaging your pearly whites. Harder bristles can result in abrasion and removal of the surface enamel of the tooth, as well as wearing away your gums over time. A soft-bristled toothbrush used properly will clean the teeth effectively with a lower risk of enamel loss!

05.01.2022 Ballarat Essential Dentals Monday Myth #1 If my teeth dont hurt they must be healthy This is false, by the time the tooth decay erodes the surface of your teeth to the point that you feel pain the decay has already advanced. Although your teeth may not be causing you pain, in reality you could be suffering from early stage tooth decay without even realising. To prevent this from happening always brush your teeth at least twice a day and try and keep clear of sugary drinks...water is best!!And regular check ups with your dentist :)

04.01.2022 Ballarat Essential Dental Myth #5... Brushing before the dental appointment will make the dentist not notice that regular brushing is not done since the last dental visit"... Not following the recommended two-minute brushing twice daily will make the gums red, swollen and bleed easily. So keep brushing your teeth :)
