25.01.2022 Far too often I get calls from people who have had a phone call, late in the afternoon, and been told by a foreign sounding call centre operator that their computer has a problem and they have to URGENTLY solve the problem for them. If you ever get this call, STOP LISTENING and HANG UP the PHONE. If you cant do that, ask the operator for their company ID and then HANG UP. Now using the phone book, look up the phone number for Telstra or whoever they said the call was from a...nd call that company. Do not use a number they provide. I can guarantee that it will be a scam every time and in the very rare case it isnt a scam, you would have made the contact with the company. Lets hope that the Federal & International Police will eventually shut down these bottom feeders.

23.01.2022 PHONE SCAM ALERT! Scammers pretending to be from the ATO are using a new tactic. They’ll phone you about a fake tax debt and try to start a three-way call ...with another scammer who claims to work alongside your regular tax agent. Keep an ear out for suspicious phone calls and warn your friends and family to beware of this scam, especially if they use an agent. If you have any doubts about a call you receive, don’t hesitate to hang up and report it to us on 1800 008 540. For further details on this scam and others, visit www.ato.gov.au/scamalerts

17.01.2022 Another trend I have seen recently is that many of the people that fall for this scam are elderly, many are on pensions and cant really afford to throw away $200-$500 on rubbish support. So if its not bad enough already, then the BANKS play hard ball on stopping or reversing the payments that these people have made to the scammers. I have seen first hand over the last few weeks, cases where the BANKS take the following approach, " If the company in question, did what they ...said they would, then you got what you paid for." Not taking into account the fact the elderly person was TRICKED into calling a bogus support phone number and then scared into letting the BOTTOM FEEDED take over their computer, to carry out complete rubbish work that wasnt required in the first place. One bank sent a 3 page form for the elderly client to fill out before they would consider helping. Another one required a written report from a computer company and the list goes on. These banks make BILLIONS of dollars profit every year and yet they decide to support scamming overseas companies, instead of the elderly and others scammed by those companies. Get a second opinion from a trusted person before you let a random caller take control of your computer.

DO NOT open the atta...chment, DELETE the email permanently from your inbox. The Department Of Transport have said on their website: Please be advised there is a scam currently active that alleges to be part of the DoT payment and receipt system. Customers are advised that DoT payment receipts are issued instantly following an online payment and are only ever in PDF format, not Word. 03.01.2022 Important Message. For anyone that has a Australian Business Name registered with ASIC, be on the look out for a company called Business Name Renewal (ABN 36618716019) that is sending out renewal notices and offering a service at a highly marked up rate. They send their message before the real ASIC reminder in the hope you will pay via them. Their web site is www.bnrenewal.com.au That is not an ASIC site and they are a private company.
