17.01.2022 Today we celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day at Lady Gowrie Headstart Kindergarten Vincent. The children expressed their cultural heritage in a variety of experiences that supported learning and development and also encouraged children to explore and connect with thier Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. We had lots of fun exploring Cultural dress-ups with Indigenous music and musical instruments, Aboriginal face painting and fl...ag handprints, Torres Strait Islander weaving with coconut leaves, Drawing Aboriginal symbols and animal tracks in the sand, Torres Strait Islander Sea animal Yoga learning the Torrest Strait language names for sea animals, and we learnt some Aboriginal animal names through storytime with Aunty Tracy and Bala Fred from TAHIS Yamani Meta Family Wellbeing Centre. Thank you to SNAICC for giving each us of the story and other goodies to take home. We all wore our favourite Indigenous designs to Kindy today to show how we are proud of our culture. "We are the Elders of tomorrow, hear our voice."

13.01.2022 Happy Indigenous Literacy Day!! Every morning we love reading books!! When we arrive at kindy its our reading session. We get to read big books, small books and books that come in all kinds of shapes and styles. We read books on our own or with our friends or with our Educators. Its important that we learn also how to treat our books with care and how to hold our book the correct way and turn the pages with care. We cant read the words yet but we can look at th...e pictures to tell a story or learn about lots of things from the pictures in the books. We love reading books and weve also written our own book with some of our local language included in it....just like our DEADLY friends at our Headstart Kindy in Vincent did. So watch this space....we will share our book weve made with everyone as soon as we finish it. So make sure you get to read a book today before you go to bed tonight and its even better when you READ A BOOK TO ME EVERYDAY because it HELPS ME TO LEARN!! See more

12.01.2022 ! Mabo Day occurs annually on 3 June and commemorates Eddie Koiki Mabo (29 June 193621 January 1992) from our Mer (Murray Is.) Community, whos...e campaign for Indigenous land rights led to a landmark decision of the High Court of Australia that, on 3 June 1992, overturned the legal fiction of terra nullius which had characterised Australian law with regards to land and title since 1770. The 1992 Mabo High Court decision acknowledged the prior and enduring rights to land of the First Peoples. On this day we Acknowledge and pay out Respect to all Traditional Custodians of the land in which we meet.
