24.01.2022 To explain the principles of Osteopathic Medicine is pretty bland in comparison to witnessing the living, breathing and self-healing capacity of the human body in action. Since the beginning of human history, stories have been used to convey information and activate our natural capacity for deeper understand. This is the reason why case histories have been such a useful method of conveying clinical information. In todays regulated health system, case histories are not a re...commended method of public communication - because one unique persons experience cant be scientifically validated and applied to everyone else. The simple truth is everyone is a unique individual, and no single person responds the same as another. This perceived limitation of case histories is totally understandable, because one needs to consider the whole spectrum of health practitioners - the good, bad and ugly. Some practitioners may have a wealth of valuable experience, and might describe their observations with complete neutrality; others on the other hand may have an over-inflated perception of their own abilities - and may inadvertently misinform the public by reporting the silver lining of every cloud they see. Public safety is our highest priority!! We must therefore, accept the educational limitations this places upon us as practitioners; and your ability as patients to find the individualised help that you are looking for. I will endeavour to explain Osteopathy simply, and in terms of its local mechanical influence of cause and effect. It is however, worth keeping in mind that there is a self-healing capacity within the human body, which may enable further clinical influence that well exceeds our expectations.

The sacrum is interconnected with the base of the human skull via its dural attachments (the tough membrane that surrounds the spinal cord). It is not uncommon, for local painful symptoms to be influenced by distant (but not unrelated) mechanical dysfunction.
