When you take the food colourings and preservatives out of your diet and your children's diets you will be amazed. Although don't load everything up with sugar when you do but that's a different story. By going back to basics your health will improve and you won't be filling your bin with so much plastic! 20.01.2022 For all the people out there that wonder about why you should wear a mask... This is what can happen to the immune compromised. This is my youngest granddaught...er, no she doesn't have covid, this was last year when she caught the flu and ended up with viral pneumonia as well. When we wear a mask and use the sanitiser we are not just protecting ourselves we are protecting the vulnerable. I haven't visited her since this Adelaide covid scare because I don't want to be responsible for taking anything into her home. She is sick at the moment, she is on double strength antibiotics and now we suspect she has somehow caught a virus as well. 19.01.2022 How often have you thought this? This was me for so long. So many diets and shakes on offer, everyone telling you to exercise harder and more. Everyone saying they have the answer. Well none of it worked for me! We are all different! I will say this many many times because it's true. ... However we can all make changes. Diets and shakes don't work because they are NOT SUSTAINABLE. Soon you become fatigued, bored, hungry and usually frustrated. 14.01.2022 #exercise So why the picture of my garden when I'm talking about exercise? BECAUSE there are so many ways you can move your body to help your health! You don't have to go to the gym, run a marathon or any other extreme. You need to MOVE, that's it, no rules, no musts, just move! That doesn't mean sitting on your butt with one of those pedal things unless you have some serious issues then great go for it. ... Moving helps bloodflow, brain function, releases chemicals in your body that heal and makes you feel good! If you want fabulous abs then great find a plan that suits you, I'm about health and what's good for you. I have a few extra kilos (about 5) BUT my health is so much better than it used to be. I have a good body core and that's the important part. The muscles that hold your skeletal frame together are the most important... so move! Stretch. Walk. Do gardening. Play ball with the kids. Dance to the music. Laugh and have fun with moving. DON'T do the exercise you hate, find what you can have fun with. Maybe you LOVE going to the gym, running, netball, football, riding your bike. 14.01.2022 Swap it out? What does that mean? Think about the processed food you eat. Our bodies prefer food in it's natural form so what can you swap out for a healthier option? White rice brown rice White pasta chickpea/lentil/other... White bread multigrain/high fibre Cake/packet biscuts fruit/nuts/seeds "But my kids hate this stuff" I can hear you say... then do it gradually. For example add 1/4 cup of brown rice to your normal white. Why?? Because all the processed 'stuff' you put in your body changes the chemistry, damages your brain, kills off the good microbiome in your gut. What happens is the good bacteria in your gut doesn't have enough food to eat as they need fibre. This in turn means the bad bacteria take over leading to all kinds of issues!! (I'm keeping it simple) This literally changes the chemistry in your body by producing toxins which are absorbed. But it also means you are not absorbing the nutrients you need to build new cells. Basically what this means is lack of good nutrition means your body doesn't have what it needs to rebuild damaged cells and this is where we get into trouble and create illness instead of wellness. Seriously this is the cause of most illnesses. Many are caused by bad diets and lack of exercise. But also stress. 'STRESS KILLS' How many times have you heard that?? Type 2 diabetes for example is preventable, it's a lifestyle diet. ... Did you know there are many practicioners see Alzheimer's as type 3 diabetes There is research showing if you have type 2 the likelihood of Alzheimer's rises significantly. As there is no cure for this awful disease wouldn't you want to do everything you possibly can to prevent it But not only that but many, many other diseases can have a lower risk factor by making lifestyle changes to give your body AND brain the best chance to continue to heal itself over your lifespan. I've raised 3 children to adulthood, my ex had serious mental health issues, I've dealt with chronic fatigue for most of my life, thyroid issues for over 20 years, there is heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's and type 2 diabetes in my family, I no longer need thyroid meds, and I feel better, healthier and stronger than I have done in many years. Spend time in nature. Do something for planet health. There are SO MANY OPTIONS!! It's overwhelming!! ... That's where a holistic health coach can help you to work out what's right for you. It's about finding what YOU can do. Finding what are the changes YOU can make WITHOUT going into overwhelm or meltdown. We are all different, I personally can't follow any 'one size fits all' health plan. They usually make me VERY sick! I end up feeling much worse than when I started. 03.01.2022 Diet diet diet!!! It's plastered all over the media. Everyone needs to diet. RUBBISH! Diets don't work! Why?? Because they are not sustainable over the long term and it's a good thing to because many of them can do you a lot of damage. Many leave you hungry, they mess with your hormones, they make you grumpy and when you can't take it any more you binge!... There are certainly some good ones out there but they are more of a healthy eating plan and that's exactly what we need to focus on. The worst thing people can do is NOT EAT FRUIT AND VEG! Seriously you must start somewhere with your healthier eating and it begins here. The basic first step to take is add ONE fruit and ONE veg into every day. If you're someone who thinks 'yeah I'm pretty good with this' then that's great! Now add more! I'm not going to lecture you on all the junk you shouldn't be eating because you know that. 03.01.2022 Let's start with the basics. Water is the one thing that most people don't drink enough of. For some reason it seems to be something no-one cares much about. Your body needs water to perform it's natural functions, from mitochondrial uptake of nutrients, removing toxins from cells and hydration so your blood and lymph systems can perform at their best. ... Basically if you don't drink enough water your body will be sluggish, causing a build up of waste products in your system which may then be reabsorbed. We need WATER to function properly. This can't be substituted with soft drink even 'diet soda' or juice full of sugar. A good place to start is substitute at least 1 soft drink with water. 03.01.2022 #sleep Why does everyone carry on about sleep?! When you sleep your body heals. A child should sleep more than an adult because that's when they grow. These are common knowledge. ... So many people don't prioritise sleep and that is a mistake. Your circadian rhythms are there to help balance hormones and heal the body and also help the brain function at its best. When you disrupt this function the entire body becomes dysfunctional and that's where lots of problems can start. Having a good bedtime routine and going to bed around the same time each day is a good way to help this rhythm stay intact. Blue light from screens can keep your brain awake for longer, caffeine and sugary foods has been known to have an impact as well. Having quiet time and not eating anything heavy before bed can also help. If you're having issues it's good to talk to your doctor but there are a few things you can try first: stop drinking coffee after 1pm, eat adjust any devices you watch including T.V. to red tones instead of blue, don't eat sugary foods and drinks after 3pm and make sure you have a regular bedtime, ESPECIALLY for children. Read or do some meditation even if that's just calm breathing. These are some basic ideas to start with. 01.01.2022 Let's face it #shithappens people do stupid things, make you angry, hurt your feelings and sometimes really awful stuff happens. If we hold on to those feelings we will carry around those stress hormones all the time. Stress = cortisol = changes in body chemistry. Our physiology will change over time and this effects everything!... I spent years permanently angry, sitting in that fight or flight (or freeze) mode. It damages who you are, exhausts your body and leads to many illnesses. We all have feelings, we are supposed to, we are human. But we need to have our rant, cry, yell or whatever it is we need to do to get it out of our system and then #letitgo find your calm place again, maybe work it off. But don't stay there as it will literally change who you are. Grief and trauma are different, these need time and care. I'm talking about your everyday stuff. I was angry this morning, I had my rant and then moved on. It's taken years to learn to do this.
