11.01.2022 We are counting down our top tips of 2020! #3 - Daylight Savings can be hard to adjust to for adults and kids. Here are some tips for helping to adjust body clocks: Adjust bedtime by 15 mins each night, working towards going to bed one hour earlier.... If your child sleeps during the day, don’t forget to move their daytime naps. Try to stick to your usual bedtime routine. Darken the room use blackout blinds or stick something over the window until your child’s body clock adjusts Make the bedroom screen free limit use before bed Get plenty of physical activity during the day but avoid exciting activities or games right before bed! 05.01.2022 We are counting down our top tips of 2020! #5 Eating a variety of foods can make eating interesting but it’s also great for our gut health. We are learning more about why looking after the bugs that grow in our gut is so important for our overall health and wellbeing. Eating a variety of foods, most importantly plant foods, like whole grains, vegetables and fruits help grow healthy gut bugs. Here are some simple swaps and adds to boost the variety of what you eat. You may s...urprise yourself that you are doing many of these already. Foods and dishes to enjoy that are full of variety: muesli soups and stews salads with nuts and grains green leafy salad mixes wholemeal pizza with veggie toppings stir fry with lots of vegetables Buddha bowls (a mix of foods served in a bowl) Food toppers nuts and seeds on cereal or on salads (no whole nuts for children under 3) dried or frozen fruit on cereal, yoghurt or porridge muesli on top of whole wheat cereal biscuits or flakes relish and pickles. Did you see the camels crossing the Tasman Bridge to raise awareness of getting skin cancer checks? Protect yourself in five simple ways to greatly reduce your risk of skin cancer. Slip on sun-protective clothing.... Slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you go outdoors and reapply every two hours afterwards. Slap on a broad-brim hat to protect your face, head, neck and ears. Seek shade where possible. Slide on sunglasses make sure they meet Australian standards. #healthytas See more
