13.01.2022 ON THE BLOG: Deconditioning, what is it? Youve probably heard of conditioning, but what is deconditioning? Deconditioning is a term used to describe that oh so dreaded loss of fitness that occurs when we stop exercising. The term use it or lose it summarises the notion pretty well. Just how quickly this happens varies, depending on your initial level of fitness and the component of fitness, e.g. cardiovascular, strength, flexibility.... . The first place you may notice a change in your level of fitness is in your aerobic fitness. Aerobic fitness refers to your bodys ability to transport and utilise oxygen. It is gained through cardio activities such as running, walking and by participating sports. Unfortunately you can expect to see a drop within 1-2 weeks of ceasing training. . Sports Scientist, Dr. Tony Boutagy reports that cardio isnt the only area you may notice a difference, maintaining muscle strength requires consistency as well. Thankfully, losing muscle strength takes a little more time. Dr. Boutagy states within two weeks youll probably start to show a 7-10 per cent loss in strength levels. Georgia was able to identify and correct Kharis movement patterns and will continue to work on this in the coming weeks to prevent any further injuries to these common areas!
