Russia from SWIFT since 2014. Russia in response has set up the SPFS; 500 Russian banks + a few international banks already in. China has CIPS (China International Payment Systems); it has an agreement with SWIFT. Russia’s priority is to bypass US/EU financial sanctions. China’s priority is to transfer yuan abroad; the yuan is not fully convertible yet. The priorities may be different but they both agree: we must bypass the US dollar. Now comes the BIG move - after discussions that lasted years, as part of the Russia-China strategic partnership. SPFS and CIPS are finally linked. In a few years that can become the alternative SWIFT used by a great deal of the Global South.
