23.01.2022 Meet Tyson Ferguson, Gumbaynggirr man and Galambila Aboriginal Corporation clinical coordinator. He's on a mission to improve the health and wellbeing of his community. Mr Ferguson was recently nominated for a second time for the Grace Roberts Memorial Community Development Awards for significant contributions to enhancing the quality of life of Aboriginal people in the Coffs Harbour area. Mr Ferguson has taught the #Gumbaynggirr language in local schools for years and is ...passionate about keeping the language alive. He's also been instrumental in launching the Pete’s Place outreach service, along with an outreach service at Ulong. Mr Ferguson wears his heart on his sleeve and sees the need to continue reconnecting with community, particularly the most vulnerable, as extremely important. It’s very heart-warming for me that someone has seen that in me, he says. Community spirit is about uplifting one another, not tearing each other down. 07.01.2022 This year's NAIDOC Week theme, ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ was founded on Black Resistance. While NAIDOC Week is a time for celebration, it is also important to acknowledge and reflect on the issues Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are experiencing and how we can all support our First Nation communities. 2020 has seen a number of issues that indigenous people have been fighting against for generations, on lands where sovereignty was never ceded. These issues h...ave been playing out in the media in the forms of Land Rights, Black Lives Matter and Black Deaths in Custody highlighting the strength, determination and resilience that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities hold against hardships based on racism, discrimination, oppression and segregation.
