07.01.2022 The COVID-19 pandemic continues to shake up travel and migration around the world. One area which has seen change is the global passport ranking index, which now ranks Australian passports as the 9th most powerful in the world. This shift in power can be attributed to temporary pandemic-related bans and puts us in good company with other countries who have taken proactive measures against COVID-19. ... The top 3 contenders are Japan, Singapore, and Germany and South Korea tied for 3rd place respectively. Meanwhile, passports from the United States have seen a drastic drop in power bringing them in line with Mexico and Uruguay (ranked 25th and 28th respectively). With 91% of Australia’s business and investment visas currently going to Chinese and Hong Kong nationals, this rise in power could see additional Chinese investors turn their focus from the US to Australia, further supported by the 40.1% climb in Chinese buying enquiries on Australia property last quarter.
