25.01.2022 We hosted our first digital recipient webinar on improving your CI listening skills with over 15 CI recipients in attendance. There were a couple of hurdles with everyone learning to engage with new technology, but it was a great and engaging session. Big thank you to Elliot at Hearoes for taking the time to go through his journey and the excellent Hearoes auditory training app. If you are looking for a good resource to use on your cochlear implant journey or provide to your patients as part of their auditory rehab toolkit Hearoes is a great addition.

23.01.2022 NSW Health has now made it mandatory for all clinicians to wear a face mask when they’re within close proximity of their patients. Whilst as hearing clinicians, we are willing and fully understand the need to comply, we must be equally sympathetic to those with hearing loss under our care who depend on lipreading. For the one in six of Australian's living with hearing loss, when we wear a mask there is now yet another obstacle in their struggle to communicate. Progress has be...en made on various fronts (e.g. window mask design by Soundfair) to enable communication friendly masks, however none exist that are tested to meet hygiene standards. Furthermore, when those with devices need to wear a mask, it sits behind their ears with limited real estate often in contest with hearing aids, cochlear implants or the spectacles they need. #hearingloss #covid #facemask See more

Some helpful tips to keep in mind when wearing your face mask and when you are communicating to those with hearing loss when wearing a face mask. #cochlearimplant #hearingimpaired

07.01.2022 Fantastic full page in the Western Advocate weekender telling Peter's #cochlearimplant journey who chose a Cochlear Australia and New Zealand brand device. We are supporting local clinics like Advanced Hearing Solutions, to deliver meaningful services in partnership through #telehealth and expanding the reach this life changing technology can have. We are always looking to help remove barriers and provide support in non traditional ways.

06.01.2022 We have been hard at work to support those with hearing loss and those who are treating it to access care more locally - much more to come!

03.01.2022 Good news story! Masks have become part of our everyday lives but can be a real nuisance when trying to wear our cochlear implants, hearing aids, and/or glasses (limited real estate!). Recently a recipient had lost their Cochlear N7 sound processor after multiple mask adjustments while out shopping. After retracing their steps, they were still unable to find their device. One of our clinics was able to provide a loan device immediately to keep the recipient on the air, but w...hat to do for a permanent replacement? - Did they have it connected to a smart phone for the find my hearing device feature to help locate it? No. - Did they have their device included in home and contents insurance or investigate other insurance options? No. - Did their health fund include cover for replacement of a prosthetic device? No. After trying to organise a new device through every funding avenue available, it was looking like a new purchase out of pocket. Fortunately, the team at Bunnings Warehouse Australia recognised the device as a Cochlear Australia and New Zealand sound processor and called the Cochlear help line who traced the serial number back to the recipient. After much frustration, stress, tears, and searching, the processor was reunited with its owner! So, a reminder if you have a cochlear implant or other hearing device; - Check you still have them if you need to adjust your mask - If you have home and contents insurance, you should consider including your sound processor in your policy - If your phone and sound processor is compatible you should enable the device location settings. If you need any support with your hearing implant, please feel free to contact our clinic or ask your audiologist for information specific to your circumstance.
