24.01.2022 Hi Everyone, The Stillbirth Centre of Research Excellence is coordinating a global research study to understand the challenges and concerns of parents who are pregnant or have recently given birth during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. They also want to understand the experiences of parents who have lost their baby to stillbirth or neonatal death and extend their condolences to you and your family during this difficult time.... They hope that their research can help improve future care for all families around the world. The global research study involves participants from Australia, Italy, Spain, UK, Canada, USA and many others. To participate in the survey, please follow this link. https://www.stillbirthcre.org.au//global-research-study-m/ Thank you The Heartfelt Team

24.01.2022 Hi Everyone, We have a big favour to ask. Westfield Local Heroes are nominated by their communities, and the outcome of the public vote will determine the three successful 2020 nominees for every Westfield centre, with each of their affiliated organisations awarded a $10,000 grant to support their work to thrive.... For us, $10,000 would almost fund the number of sessions we do in a month (133). In total, Westfield will be awarding 126 grants across Australia and New Zealand totaling $1.26 million. 3 heartfelt members have been honoured to be nominated as Westfield Local Heroes and are in the running to receive $10,000 grants for Heartfelt’s very important work. We would love it if you would take the time to vote for each of our members on the links below. You can vote once for each of the nominees. Voting closes on September 14. Emma MacDonald - Auckland New Zealand https://www.westfield.co.nz//3OAYHZKDMr7/local-heroes-2020 Gavin Blue - Melbourne Victoria https://www.westfield.com.au//2bsVQSbELZ/local-heroes-2020 Debi Mac - Geelong Victoria https://www.westfield.com.au//1mp2zI1bpg/local-heroes-2020 We would especially love it if you could share the post with the links through your networks to help us be in the running for the much needed grants. 20.01.2022 Three cheers, massive congratulations & thanks to Natalie Turner-Wright. Natalie was meant to be running the marathon her first in Napier, New Zealand but the corona virus had the event cancelled and dictated she stay local! Natalie ran her fundraising marathon anyway around her local area in an impressive 4 hours 41 minutes!... Her goal was to raise $1100 for Heartfelt New Zealand in honour of her daughter Emmeline, who was born and passed away on July 16 last year. Natalie has already far surpassed that goal with $6000. You can make a donation to Heartfelt here through give a little: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/run-for-emmeline An incredible effort Natalie - huge thanks from us all at Heartfelt.

20.01.2022 A message we received recently with a donation. ----- "Our son died 18 years ago at 17 days old. We have very few photos and they are very precious. I'm glad someone is doing this for family's now"... ----- The Heartfelt Team See more

19.01.2022 We are grateful for Meghan Markle sharing her story of her recent pregnancy loss. "Some have bravely shared their stories; they have opened the door, knowing that when one person speaks truth, it gives license for all of us to do the same. We have learned that when people ask how any of us are doing, and when they really listen to the answer, with an open heart and mind, the load of grief often becomes lighter for all of us. In being invited to share our pain, together we ...take the first steps toward healing." Thank you https://www.nytimes.com//o/meghan-markle-miscarriage.html

18.01.2022 Why we do what we do. A message we received recently and share with the generous permission of the family. ---------------... "I want to start off by saying thank you. Myself and my husband to be Jesse had being trying for a baby for over a year and after numerous pregnancy tests coming back negative we felt like we were coming to a stage of giving up. Then one day last year we were brought to tears of joy with a positive pregnancy test. It was the best news I've had in a long time, 3 months went by and we were finally given the green light to let friends know of our future child and how happy we were. Only a week later we were given the devastating news that our son had being diagnosed with trisomy 18. A terminal condition. Our lives felt like they had shattered, a sense of emptiness filled our bodies. We were told multiple times to terminate but we couldn’t manage to succumb to it. I rang a photographer and asked if she would be willing to take photographs of our son once born. I broke down mid conversation and told her that my son had being diagnosed with this terminal illness and all I wanted was for a photographer to capture the raw emotions of birthing/holding my son. She informed me of Heartfelt and what your organisation does. I cried with a sense of relief that there are genuine people out there who just want to help. On April the 17th I had my son Andwyn Cook Manzo, he was born still, a heart aching experience but a sense of relief that my son was finally here. I stayed in contact with the photographer Samantha Bryce throughout my pregnancy. Samantha arranged for the Heartfelt area rep Kath to organise a Heartfelt photographer to come to the hospital. Due to Covid 19 there had being a reduced number of Heartfelt volunteers, and they sent us updates on the Covid restrictions, and tips on how to create photographic memories ourselves if they were unable to come into the hospital. Somehow through great communication and compassion a volunteer named Hollie Napper came to photograph my family and our newest addition. I can’t thank Heartfelt enough for what you do. I was scared to take photos at first, I was frightened that my son was going to look different I was scared to hold him, and bathe him. Through Heartfelt's beautiful photos I get to look back at how precious he was, how beautiful he looked. I appreciate what you do and all your volunteers, you have made my grieving process that little bit easier. The photos Heartfelt provided my family have made me feel like I really got to know my son, connect with him, love him and cherish him. I thank you" ----------- The Heartfelt Team

18.01.2022 On this day 10 years ago Heartfelt was registered as a not for profit incorporated association. To the families who use our service, it is our honour to provide you with the gift of photographic memories The Heartfelt Team

18.01.2022 We are very proud of the print cases that families who use our service receive their photos in. We wanted something unique, special and something that felt precious. We have them custom made so there is no one else with something similar.... A parent mentioned they like to keep the print case in the bookcase, and suggested having the Heartfelt logo on the spine would be a good idea. So we did. The Heartfelt Team

16.01.2022 Why we do what we do. A message we received recently and shared with the kind permission of the family. ----------------------... "On Monday 22nd March, 2021 the unthinkable happened and we lost our precious boy, Benji. On Thursday my partner received the email from Heartfelt that contained the most wonderful, precious, valuable, everlasting photos that I've ever seen. They were absolutely perfect. I just wanted to reach out and say thank you, although a simple thank you will never be enough. You have done something so wonderful and I know it will have a life changing impact on me. We took some hospital photos whilst we could (I was rushed off to Melbourne for a further surgery) but when I look at them I just feel so much grief and pain. The photos you captured just fill me with so much happiness and pride of the angel we created. I will be eternally grateful. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Rebekah and Michael." ---------------------- The Heartfelt Team

16.01.2022 Hi Everyone Different states are experiencing various levels of restrictions due to COVID-19 (and restrictions can change very quickly). We want to remind people in the areas with tighter restrictions we have a smaller number of Heartfelt photographers who are trained in infection control and can provide Heartfelt sessions under each hospital's direction, following their current COVID-19 policies. We expect some hospitals again will have periods of not allowing volunteers i...n. We have other options available to support families who take their own photos, and support for hospital staff who use Heartfelt cameras to photograph families. We can process these photos for you, and offer a tip sheet with instructions to help you. You find out more information here. https://heartfelt.org.au/COVID19_Update Stay safe The Heartfelt Team

13.01.2022 Today we remember Jordan. Our profile photo is the beautiful Jordan and her mum, Sophie. Jordan passed away 12 years ago today. ... Jordan’s photo has been the Heartfelt profile photo since Heartfelt began. The image embodies everything Heartfelt is committed to: giving the gift of photographic memories and capturing the love between parents and their children. Jordan’s parents said: We would like to express our gratitude for what Heartfelt did, and acknowledge the difficulty the photographers face to be there during such sad circumstances. We are truly grateful for your gift. We are very grateful for the generosity of Jordan’s parents allowing us to share their photo of Jordan. The Heartfelt Team

13.01.2022 A message we received recently and share with the kind permission of the family. --------------- "Dear Gavin and team at Heartfelt... I hope this finds you well. I was just putting my 6 year old son to bed and he requested to look at a photo of his sister, in particular the one where you said she had hair because we didn’t share all the photos with him two years ago. I was a bit reluctant to revisit the photos at first because it’s been some time since I looked at all of them. We shared a sad but profound moment just then. It was so heartbreaking for me to see how sad he was. He told me it felt as though a meanie had taken his heart and crumpled it and now it hurts and can’t go back to the way it was. It makes my pain worse knowing that he shares the same heartache. Those photos are our most treasured possession. I cannot thank you enough for what Heartfelt does for families like ours. It’s one of the few memories we have, she was stillborn at 33 weeks in 2018. We miss her every day. Thank you again and to Claire who took those photos. Warmly, --------------- Why we do what we do. 10.01.2022 We would like to share with you one of the stories from our "Images from the Heart" book. In this story, NSW Heartfelt member, Lee Illfield talks about photographing Linik. ------------------------------ Linik By Lee Illfield... John Hunter Hospital, NSW James and Laura had enormous pride and love for their darling boy, Linik. It radiated throughout the room, along with great support for each other. I was introduced to Linik, ‘Link’ and told about the history of his name. I watched and captured these new parents as they talked and cried and loved their little boy. I captured moments as they touched his hands, held his perfect little feet, admired his little nose with a smile and brushed his hair. Capturing moments of absolute sadness and heartbreak and moments of joy of these new parents. As I look at the photos now, its takes my breath away how strong the bond is between Laura and her child. I am in awe of how Laura looked at her darling boy, so much love, care and tenderness. Update: I recently bumped into Laura and James at a café and was delighted to learn they are pregnant again! As she said, their little one will have a special big brother and his very own guardian angel! Laura is the most amazing woman and with inspiration from Link she has started a company named Link and Luna. She is a spokesperson for stillbirth in the community. ------------------------------- You can find out more about our book "Images from the Heart" at this link https://heartfelt.org.au/Heartfelt-Book-Project We are very grateful families are willing to share their stories. 08.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Although many hospitals have restricted volunteer access including Heartfelt photographers, there are hospitals that are still allowing us to provide our services. We have heard of occasions that staff at some hospitals where we do still have access haven't called us because they thought photographers wouldn't be available.... The Area Rep is available on 1800 583 768 or visit this page https://www.heartfelt.org.au/contact We are very grateful that across Australia and New Zealand we currently have 23 Photographers who have volunteered to continue offering Heartfelt's services by completing COVID-19 infection control training and working adhering to our new COVID-19 protocols, which include working under the strict guidance of hospital staff, with prescribed PPE equipment.
