25.01.2022 Happy International Women’s Day A day that means lots of different things to us all. To me every day is Women’s Day, every day is an opportunity to create change, to be kind, to inspire others. Growing up in a generation where women are allowed to work, go to school, start their own businesses, have a voice, it’s hard to imagine a life where that doesn’t exist. Thank you to the women that paved the way for us and thank you to the beautiful women in my life who continue t...o inspire me, motivate me, encourage me and show love and kindness. May we continue to be that for each other, today and every day See more

22.01.2022 Hello my lovelies, it is I, Heather McDowall. Maker of your hats and beautiful headpieces, loving writer of your cards, courier of your products and replier of your funny messages and emails. Here’s another edition of Fun Facts Friday for you all: 1- Most of you know me as Fashion Heather and before I was Fashion Heather, I was Sporty Spice Heather, which, I know looking at me, it’s a little hard to imagine. In 3 weeks I will be giving myself an early Christmas present, for... me it’s a life changing gift, and that is, a double knee reconstruction. I’ve had lots of confused messages from people asking me why the hell I would be doing this, like, isn’t that type of injury reserved for athletes? Or people that play sport even? No offence Heather but you don’t look like the sporting type (ooof that doesn’t hurt at all) The answer is yes, and this is from old injuries ( 2 x ruptured acls) incurred during the sporty spice Heather years (BS, life Before Sydney.) After putting it off for the last 8 years, I’ve decided, it’s time McDowall. 2- I am an all or nothing person. There is no in between. I’m either giving it 110% or I’m giving you crickets. So when I do respond to your emails or say yes I will make you a custom hat that is sold out online but ill make it just for you, congratulations, you’ve made the cut. I’ve devoted my undivided attention to you, And I’m there with you 110% 3- I am a Scorpio. Which means that yes, it is my birthday next week. Everything they say about Scorpio’s is true, Including being brutally honest and straight forward. There is no sugar coating with me. It’s a blessing and a curse. 4- I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again- Return your shopping trolleys people. And that is all folks See more

You would be surprised how many a headpiece I have designed on the floor of a hotel... or an airport. I can finally share some photos of the wedding and the two headpieces made in room 513. Was it worth it? Yes. Would I do it again? yeah probs not. Love you Carmen

19.01.2022 Styling Tips for the Ella Headpiece Do- Work out what is going to be the feature of your outfit first. Headpiece or the dress. Just like the Batchelor there can only be one. Work your outfit around the feature piece. Don’t- Have the headpiece and the dress competing for attention. They need to work in Harmony. Think choir, not Batchelor. Do- Slick yo hair back for a polished look. Show off the details of the Ella headpiece. I got blisters making these headpieces, so let not my blisters go in vain please people. @ Sydney, Australia
18.01.2022 As much as we think we can do everything on our own... the truth is- you can’t! I’d love to Introduce you to my newest recruit Andrew! 17.01.2022 Trust The Process .. I’ve said this many a time before, I didn’t grow up wanting to a milliner, nor did I have any interest in Fashion. It certainly wasn’t a topic I discussed with my career counsellor in high school. In fact- joining the army was. True story. Sport was my life and it’s all I ever knew and wanted to pursue. But that was not the path that was destined for me. Sporting injuries ended my dream and I had to find something else I was interested in. After a bit... of research I decided to take a break from uni and go in the total opposite direction of where I was heading. Fashion. I enrolled in TAFE to do a short course in sewing. Just till the end of the year I told myself. It was a CERT II in Clothing production and there i learned how to sew garments. The pattern pieces were all laid out and we we are taught how to assemble shirts, dresses, pants, pockets, zips, jackets you name it. I sewed it. I had never sewn in my life. (Actually I lied i sewed a casserole cover in home Ec class in grade 10) I struggled even picking up the concept of threading a machine. Pretty sure I was the shittest in the class. Even had to draw straight lines on the pattern pieces so I could sew straight lines. But my friend, this was all a part of my journey into what I am doing now. There are lessons and opportunities in every thing that we do. The way that I see it, these Things happened to me to steer me back on to the path that I was always meant to take. Pay attention to what’s happening around you, perhaps you are being taught a lesson right now as well. Trust the process xxx See more

14.01.2022 It’s time for a change in the Fashion Industry, and I am committed to being a part of that change. Like many industries that have suffered this year, I honestly believe this has been the biggest wake up and shake down we all needed. There are ways to do things differently that have a more positive effect on each other, and the environment. Fast Fashion, and the production times behind Fast Fashion has put such a strain on the expectations of small designers that 2020 has bee...n super rough. This is why I am launching a new concept on my store to celebrate Slow Fashion. To share with you the stories behind the designers, the behind the scenes of what really goes on to producing a range, the focus on buying quality, supporting Australian made fashion and supporting up and coming Australian Designers. 4 more weeks till launch and I’m Working my little toosh off to get this happening. We can all play our part, the time for change is now. See more

11.01.2022 Melbourne Cup, usually the day that stops the nation.. but 2020 has kinda taken over that whole slogan hasnt it? Not putting the pressure on ladies but I kinda am at the same time... Today is the last day for shipping if you want to get your hats in time for the cup celebrations, (wherever you may be clicking your glasses) Also- if you have been eyeing off the Daniella hats, I only have one more in black and three in white... (until I restock next year) Heather’s Hot tip for your Friday- get yo ass into gear.
10.01.2022 Not gonna lie, 2020 has been a tough year for us all. Getting married in 2020 is a whole new experience and a tough decision for many. Whether your guests have to quarantine for two weeks before they’re allowed to attend the wedding, to border restrictions not even granting family and loved ones the honour of attending, having to sit down with no drunk dancing, or numbers being strictly limited. Regardless, it is still just as special and even more special for us to be able to create magic for brides on their wedding day. From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every customer I’ve had this year, and thank you @amelia.may.moseley for the honour of making your bridal headpiece. You looked absolutely divine. Congratulations @ Sydney, Australia

05.01.2022 Here’s another instalment of Fun Facts about me to brighten your Tuesday: 1-This is one of my best friends Ben. When I met him 15 years ago I had no idea he was gay. I mean It’s screamingly obvious now, and apparently then as well, but I thought I was in with a chance. Clearly not. 2- I am obsessed with dogs. I am a part of a Facebook group about dogs, people posting photos of their cute puppies. I don’t own a dog. My friends dogs love me. I don’t know what it is. But it’s li...ke those videos of when the owner returns from war and the dogs get so excited. That’s what it is like every time they see. Maybe I was a dog in my past life. I was in a shop the other day and this dog saw me and was struggling to get away from the owner, so it could come and say hi. She finally walked over and he jumped up on me and was beyond excited to see me. It was weird and cute at the same time. Again, I really don’t know what it is. 3- Avocados. Don’t get it. I’m really forcing myself to like them. Smashed avo on toast. Also don’t get it. I really want to understand what the hype is all about. I mean I’ll eat it, but I’m certainly not jumping on the couch Tom Cruise style in excitement. It’s a work in progress. See more
05.01.2022 Legit. This day one year ago, I woke up thinking it was my Bday. It was the next day. I’m also that person who: 1- Walks away from the register at Coles without my shopping 2- Gets home from the airport to find I left my luggage doing the rounds on the carousel 3- Thinks my car has been stolen, after one week I walk past it at the train station car park... 4- Loses my car in the shopping centre car park and after 4 hours of searching has to go get security to help me. .who Found it in 5 minutes 5- Beyond my immediate family I have no idea how my family are related to me, cousins, their parents, who their parents and kids are, their uncles, aunties, grandparents, what their relation is to me. I just know were related some how. 7- Sometimes when I read messages I respond in my head and then go to write them a message 4 weeks later and realise , I in fact didn’t respond. My best has actually been a few years. Nothing to be proud of I know 8-I’ve left my hand bag on the side of the road and hunted it down using find my iPhone , go to Rock up to the house that it’s located at, planning to say I don’t know what- gimme back my bag, then see that there’s a police station close by and someone actually handed it in there (umm hello find my iPhone so off with your location buddy) 9-Yet somehow with the shittest memory on earth, I will still remember customers from years ago, what dress they wore, what event they were going to or are going to, any important date or Milestone of anyone close to me, and anything nice anyone has ever done for me. I mean I can forget where I parked my car but I can still remember your outfit from 4 years ago. Go figure See more

03.01.2022 Fashions on the Field enthusiasts... how do we feel about all the new changes? Love or loathe? Gone are the days of walking on a catwalk, spin, pose, try not to trip, smile, hold entrant number for the judges to see, pray for the wind not to blow your hat off, smile, do I have lipstick on my teeth? Pose for the paps again and walk back to your place on the stage. We have the fashion chute, taking photos at the venue, to now Fashions on the Lawn where you take photos at home and send them in. I was talking to a customer yesterday who said at the races in Newcastle over the weekend, entrant images are uploaded to a Facebook page and the most votes wins. Yay or nay? What are your thoughts?

02.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone and cheers to a fab long weekend. May we never get anyone asking us to do any alterations on their clothes ever again.
01.01.2022 Live Love (fake) Laugh I had the best start to the week yesterday attending The Tab Everest Ladies Breakfast. Thank you to Nadia and @jaimee_rogers for making it happen Was I overdressed? Yeah look probably. Did I make my headpiece the night before the event? Of course I did. For all those that contributed to my phone blowing up yesterday, asking me where my jumpsuit is from.... It is designed and made in WA by my talented friend and designer Kate from @onlyoneashley_label. Anyone that knows me knows I love two things: 1- Jumpsuits 2- Puffy Sleeves And this jumpsuit is all of that rolled into one. If you’re also looking for a hot tip this racing season- my money is on @onlyoneashley_label. Last year her collection sold out before it even hit the shelves on its Debut into @myer. You heard it here first guys..and you’re very welcome. @ Ivy Sydney
