25.01.2022 16% of kids have a developmental disability- and somehow we STILL have a fear of seeking assessment & intervention. WE NEED TO CHANGE THIS - developmental disab...ilities are common and many many children need support to be successful. Let’s help them- let’s talk about it. It’s not something to be ashamed of or to keep quiet about. My kids have all benefited from early intervention/special education and I am so grateful they had and continue to have access to specialized intervention. It can make a world of difference and does not make them abnormal or less- it simply means they require additional support. See more

22.01.2022 HEEA Therapy Services is very excited to let you know we have recruited some new team members and we have appointments available for both Occupational Therapy & Speech Therapy. We have Ashlee & Jasmine joining HEEA as Occupational Therapists from 9th November. This means we have appointments available from late November through December and into January. We also have telehealth appointments available for speech therapy with Erin through until March 2021. ... In the first week of January we will be joined by Simon & Holly both Occupational Therapists, as well as Shaylee & Gemma both Speech Language Pathologists. 18.01.2022 Its been a hectic few weeks at HEEA so it was time for a bit of fun.......Timezone fun!!!! . So on Friday we took our team meeting to Time Zone. We played a lot of games including Mario Cart, Space Invaders, Wackaminion, Motorbike GP racing, Shark Attack just name a few. Maddy kicked butt and was clearly the overall winner with Madhura a close second.....Evan & Holly tried but couldn't compete.....except on Space Invaders where Evan prevailed With the points won we were able to get some toys for our therapy services. An awesome way to end the week with lots of laughs and fun had by all.

17.01.2022 Wow! Look at all of that speech sound learning that occurs in the first few years of life... As children learn to make speech sounds, it is normal for them to make errors. However, if these errors continue, these may be cause for concern. This diagram gives an overview of the typical sequence of speech sound development, adapted from McLeod & Crowe (2018). 04.01.2022 It was great for HEEA to be working alongside Leigh Bennett today to deliver the Charters Towers Resilient Leadership & Mentor Program. This is a great program focusing on reflection, awareness, and to build leadership and resilience individually and as community leaders and mentors. This will be delivered over 4 months with today being the first workshop. There were representatives from Prospect Community Services, Charters Towers Regional Council, Charters Towers State Hi...gh & Charters Towers Central State High. It was quite inspiring to see the resilience levels already in the senior school students. Their honesty and reflection especially about living through COVID was refreshing. It is always great to work with a diverse group of people and always great to be working with Prospect Community Services. Thank you to everyone that participated for your energy and honesty, it was a great day. See more

01.01.2022 Speech pathologists (speechies) work with a range of individuals from early childhood, right through to the elderly years! But how does a speechie help an adult participant? Well... A speech pathologist may assist with an Adult's language recovery after an accident (e.g. stroke or TBI), swallowing difficulties after surgery, management of life-long conditions and assistance with communication devices, manage difficulties with voice production (e.g. hoarse voices in teachers)... and so much more!
