25.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that we make the announcement that due to the return of lockdown in Metropolitan Melbourne we have once again had to suspend the operation of our Cellar Door. Tastings and food service will no longer be available until the 22nd of August when the restrictions are eased. We will remain open from 10am-5pm weekdays for takeaway bottle sales in the interim. We will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. The past month has been a very heartwarming time for us... as we welcomed many familiar and new faces to our Cellar Door and the support from our customers has been incredibly important to keep the spirits high around the Hill. We are all looking forward to the time when we can do that again but until then stay safe and be kind to one another. If you have a booking with us scheduled for the next 6 weeks one of our staff members will be in contact with you in the coming days.

24.01.2022 We are all very excited that we can now welcome the rest of Victoria to our cellar door. We have plenty of room for everyone to socially distance and enjoy a glass of wine on our deck and lawn but please keep in mind our lawn is under renovations and weather dependent. Thank you to all our customers who have supported us these past 2 weeks of our re opening. We are so appreciative and thankful for your continued support and look forward to seeing all Victorians in our cellar door soon.

22.01.2022 Halliday wine companion 2021 has awarded 2015 Rangeview reserve single clone Pinot Noir 96 gold points! "Shows the exceptional '15 vintage to full effect, likewise the skilled winemaking and the Pommard clone that responds to the site so well. The bouquet is, as usual for this particular wine, rich and expressive, the palate with berry and plum flavours couched in a web of finely strung tannins." Sourced from a single block of west facing, high planted vines at our Yarra Vall...ey site, this 100% Pommard (D4V5) clone Pinot Noir is the boldest in our range. These vines were selected for their ability to create Pinot with a power and intensity that we believe to be unmatched in other clones of the variety. Available to purchase at our online bottle shop.

22.01.2022 Sunny days like today call for a glass of Pinot Grigio and a cheese board overlooking the vines on our deck. Pinot Grigio is our first wine to have the new Ingram Road labels featuring our resident wedgetail eagles. Next time you are at Helens Hill keep a look out for these beautiful birds flying in the sky and ask our friendly staff about our new label releases.

22.01.2022 Happening now in the winery it's Rack and Return time for the 2020 Helen's Hill Syrah. Racking is a method in which you remove the wine from its settled lees, taking it from one vessel to another, ie. from barrel to tank. At Helen's Hill this is done only once, which assists with the maturation and enables the wine to develop an elegant palette and aroma that isn’t reductive and unstable. The wine is then assessed and allowed to settle in tank for a few days before returning to barrel, done slowly and gently so as to have minimal effect on the wine. We use this process on all our reds aside our Pinot Noir, which we allow to develop texture and palate weight with extended lees contact. Our winemakers are hard at work today preparing our Syrah for its long and gentle maturation, in time for bottling in July 2021.

21.01.2022 Halliday wine companion 2021 and Huon Hooke at The Real Review have awarded The Smuggler Pinot Noir 2017 some outstanding reviews! Our Single Clone Pinot Noirs are a real passion project for everyone at Helen's Hill so reviews like this are exciting rewards for the efforts of our viticulture and winemaking teams. Read on to see what they had to say. James Halliday- Halliday Wine Companion 97/100... Abel clone, Selectiv’-harvested, destemmed and crushed, open-fermented, 20 days on skins, matured for 11 months in French puncheons (30% new). The magic of the cool ’17 vintage suggests some whole bunch when in fact none was used. Savoury complexity creates drive and intensity, spicy/foresty notes to the fore, and linger long on the finish and aftertaste. I love this style of pinot. Huon Hooke- The Real Review 95/100 Medium to deep red colour with a glint of purple. It has a very fragrant aroma of spiced strawberry, fresh herbs, red cherry and raspberry, a delicious array of aromas and flavours, the palate silky-soft and finely-textured, long and harmonious. Some foresty, bunchy notes, well-judged and subtle. A gorgeous pinot. We only produced 120 6-packs of this wine due to low yields in 2017 so stocks of this wine are extremely limited. This is a must-try for lovers of our Pinot Noir so make sure you order yours before it is too late.

07.01.2022 As we make our way through winter the work starts again for our viticulture team. Pictured here are our 1 year old Abel clone pinot noir vines. Vines of this age require extra care during pruning due to the fragility that comes with the youth of the vines. We are currently in the stage of wrapping down the canes for next years crop. To do this, we first select the healthiest cane. We then trim the healthy cane and wrap it down to the cordon wire to provide the young vine wit...h stability. This clone of pinot noir is a rare variety in the Yarra Valley and is the single clone used to make our 'Smuggler' reserve pinot so getting these vines established properly at this stage of development is very important! Thanks to our expert viticulturist Nicoletta for the amazing shot.
