23.01.2022 LOOK AT ALL THOSE SWEET, SWEET RECYCLED PHONES! Last week, two of our team members Lucy and Liam headed down to Total Green Recycling to pick up a new shipment of recycled smartphones. TGR has been one of Hello Initiative's biggest supporters since day 1, and provide us with eco-friendly recycled smartphones to resource our Mobile Support project. ... TGR is passionate about addressing the challenges of e-waste in modern communities, and is determined to divert electronic waste away from landfill and into productive uses like supporting small businesses. Their social enterprise model sees them recover useful materials - phones included - and divert them into green enterprise. TGR also ensures any recycled electronics have data permanently destroyed. HI and TGR make a great partnership in enacting environment and social change. Want to learn more about Total Green Recycling? https://www.totalgreenrecycling.com.au/ A massive thanks to Michael and the TGR team - we couldn't do it without you!

20.01.2022 WOW - we have officially received and processed our 100th referral! Since launching in September 2019 we have been so excited to see our service be picked up and used by local community organisations and justice services to help young people reach their full potential - looking forward to seeing how much more we can do in 2020 and beyond

19.01.2022 How exciting to be delivering our first mobile phones this morning to our shiny new referral pathway - the WA Metropolitan Youth Bail Service! We can now support more young people across the Perth area to navigate the justice system and link in with digital support communities. Thanks MYBS!

18.01.2022 Wow, thanks so much for the support Santa Maria College!! The phones your students donate will make a real difference out in the community. We rely on community support like this to keep our program running - if you know a school or business with some old devices to donate, please reach out!!

18.01.2022 It's officially Kambarang season! October begins the transformative time of the Noongar Kambarang season, the return of warm, dry weather. This period marks the time of wildflowers with native plants blooming during this season of birth, so keep your eyes on peeled on all the natural wonders around you.

15.01.2022 The digital divide isn't limited to developing countries. It's real, and in our backyard. During this isolating time of COVID-19, it's important to remember not all of us have easy access to phone calls and the internet - and right now, that means access to information and to community.

13.01.2022 *URGENT SMART PHONE DONATION DRIVE* Imagine being socially isolated during COVID19 with no reliable access to the internet. The COVID-19 pandemic has cast a spotlight on the digital divide between Australians. In the past weeks demand for Hello Initiative has drastically increased... and we need your help to meet it! ... We currently have a waitlist of over 80 young people who urgently need access to your recycled smartphones. Because of COVID-19, face-to-face contact between young people and their youth workers has been severely limited, creating much greater reliance on phone communication. Access to a mobile phone is essential in maintaining young people’s mandatory contact with the courts, support services and community networks and ensuring their success in exiting the justice system. By donating your old smartphone* to disadvantaged young West Australians you can help decrease digital inequity in our community and keep our young people out of detention and on the right track. We can arrange no-contact pickups from your home or drop offs at our location in Palmyra. Donate your old device at www.helloinitiative.org.au/smartphone-donations, if you have any questions email us at [email protected]! *Damaged phones are no issue - we can refurbish them to give them a new lease on life!

12.01.2022 Welcome to the new season! Djilba is the Noongar season around August / September time of year, and though still cold we can look forward to some warmer and clearer days ahead

11.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago we launched our first design thinking workshop! In this program Hello Initiative saw changemakers from across the youth services sector come together to learn about Human Centred Design Thinking, and co-design innovative solutions to challenges found in the sector. Thank you to all those central to its success, especially the participants on the day! We can’t wait to launch many more of these programs in the future.

We feel extremely grateful for this donation as Dismantle is an NFP striving to accomplish a very similar goal to us - empowering vulnerable young people ! 04.01.2022 In Australia, young people as young as 10 can be held criminally responsible for their actions. Australia, we can do better than that - children belong in classrooms, not lockups. Let's #raisetheage
