24.01.2022 The cannabis industry should be a legitimate, tax paying industry, hemploying many thousands of people. Instead we squander billions of tax dollars on destroying a valuable industry.

22.01.2022 About the LCQ Party Many people in Australia believe that Cannabis law reform is (or should be) a federal issue. The People of Australia petitioned the Federal ...government in 2018 for a plebiscite to be held at the 2019 Federal Election, to gather public opinion on the question of legalising Cannabis. It was signed by 13,000 people in just one month. Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt responded, stating clearly that: The (LNP) Government does not support legalising Cannabis for recreational use but notes that issues relating to prohibition legislation deregulation and decriminalisation of Cannabis are primarily the responsibilities of the states and territories. This left no doubt that we would need to attack this issue at a State level. In Queensland too much public money is being spent for too little return on failed drug policy. This is reflected in the Illicit Drug Data Report 2016/17 which states that nationally, consumer arrests continue to account for the greatest proportion of Cannabis arrests at 92%. Of that national total, Queensland consumers account for 29%. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, illicit drug offences remained the most common principle offence in 201718 for offenders in Queensland. More than one in four offenders proceeded against by police had a principal offence of Illicit drug offences. LCQ aims to turn that around ... The LCQ Party believes that Cannabis law reform does not have to be complicated and the Grape Theory forms the basis of how we will go about making the necessary reforms at a State level. The Grape Theory Treat Cannabis like grapes. You can grow as many grapes as you want, no licence. You can make as many of those grapes as you want into wine, no licence. You can share that wine with your friends and family, no licence. HOWEVER the moment you want to sell some of that wine you require a licence and to show quality control and safety for human consumption and you pay the appropriate fees. Now that you have a REAL choice in Queensland please make sure you are enrolled to vote and your details are up to date! 21.01.2022 This is an example of what happens when a commodity is legal but grossly over taxed. The government takes $1.30 on every gram of tobacco, two thirds to three quarters of the market value, and now there's a thriving black market. This is exactly what we don't want to see develop in a legal Cannabis industry.

14.01.2022 Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia ... "Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party’s Ian Zunker said it was a case of the old saying too many chiefs, not enough Indians. The top cats in government and business are always cutting the frontline staff which in-turn creates holes in the business model Mr Zunker said. Shortages in staff and supplies creates more problems than it solves - fatigue becomes more prevalent, mistakes occur more, which hurts the business more than when there were staff on hand (and) the problem is that these mistakes can be deadly. In saying that, if we had ease of access to the therapeutic medicine cannabis, the strain on the health system wouldn’t need to be anywhere near as big as what it is - it helps so many people in so many ways, and we need to allow this to be accessible with ease.

10.01.2022 HOW MUCH WOULD QUEENSLAND BENEFIT BY LEGALISING CANNABIS? Dr John Jiggens The legalisation of cannabis is happening world-wide!... Canada legalised cannabis in 2018, while eleven US states have also legalised cannabis. In Australia, the ACT legalised cannabis this year. In the US in 2018, the fledging legal cannabis industry employed 82,000 people and paid over a billion dollars in state taxes. According to a recent Queensland Productivity Commission report, legalising cannabis would provide a net benefit to the Queensland economy of about one billion dollars annually. In their report on Imprisonment and Recidivism, the Queensland Productivity Commission (QPC) estimated that Queensland’s imprisonment rate grew at five times the rate of the population over the past decade. Consequently, Queensland’s prisons are overflowing and are operating at 130% capacity. Given the sky-rocketing imprisonment rates, Queensland will need to build two new prisons to house the increasing prison population over the next five years, at an estimated cost of $3.6 billion. A significant factor in these skyrocketing imprisonment rates is the War on Drugs and the futile police effort to arrest their way out of the problem. There are over twenty-thousand cannabis offences prosecuted in Queensland every year at a cost to the public purse of about $300 million dollars in police, courts and prison time. These prosecutions do far more harm than cannabis, which in contrast does enormous good as an effective medicine for so many illnesses for so many people. The removal of cannabis prohibition would significantly reduce the growing rate of imprisonment. We should be treating drug abuse as a health problem. Over the last century, from alcohol prohibition in the US in 1919 to 2020, the world failed to learn the lesson that Prohibition doesn’t work, and we are only now slowly awakening from prohibition’s narcotic stupification. Locking people away has a century-long history of failure. It costs $111,000 annually to lock one prisoner away and each of the high security cells we house them in cost $600-$800,000. Locking people up is expensive and is a scandalous waste of money when its main purpose becomes to hide social problems away, not treat them. If you have a drug problem today in Australia, it is far easier to find a drug dealer than to find help. Statistics from: The Queensland Productivity Commission report on Imprisonment and Recidivism, QPC 2020, https://www.qpc.qld.gov.au/inquiries/imprisonment/ Dr John Jiggens is an independent candidate in the seat of South Brisbane. He is a writer, former academic and a journalist, who was the founding editor of the Westender and The Cane Toad Times and who has been a ZZZ journalist over several decades. His PhD was Marijuana Australiana: Cannabis Use, Popular Culture and the Americanisation of drugs policy in Australia. The Joke, a rewrite of his thesis, will be published shortly.

07.01.2022 Dire warnings of legal loopholes, a mental health crisis and drug driving fears accompanied the legalisation of Cannabis in the ACT last year. But one year on, cannabis users and stakeholders alike say that, while overall the impacts have been subtle, the change has been for the better. "Overall, we found Cannabis use hasn't changed and, in some ways, that's the big story, because there were really dire predictions at the outset" Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Association ACT chief executive Devin Bowles said. "The sky hasn't fallen and people who need to access treatment are better able to do so while the taxpayer is saving money. It's a win-win" ...

04.01.2022 Queensland, Australia TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland Queensland residents draws to the attention of the Ho...use: The objective of the Drugs Misuse Acts is to target drug-traffickers, however over 90% of Cannabis arrests are patients, carers and other consumers, adversely impacting their well-being, employment, education and travel; and that "medicinal Cannabis" laws have failed patients, as witnessed in the Senate inquiry into the Barriers to Medical Cannabis. The inquiry recommendations directed toward the States, have not yet been acknowledged or actioned by the Queensland Parliament. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to address these injustices by amending laws to ensure consumers have safe access to Cannabis via: - an immediate moratorium on arrests for personal use; - the removal of restrictions on the cultivation/production, possession and supply of Cannabis plants, Cannabis, cannabinoids via amendments to Drugs Misuse Regulations 1987, Schedules 2 and 3; and the Health {Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996, 270A; the making of new regulations to allow consumers to cultivate six plants in flower at any one time and possess Cannabis, upon the person accepting all risks and responsibilities for usage and storage of their Cannabis; - a two year trial, to be undertaken to assess the outcomes of decriminalising cannabis including harms or benefits of a licensed, taxed supply chain with home grow option; and the establishment of an independent body inclusive of all stakeholders, responsible for overseeing all aspects of regulating Cannabis and hemp, including issuing licences for microbusinesses and non-profit organisations to produce affordable Cannabis for local supply within Queensland. https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au//petit/petition-details
