Eric is a domain expert whose knowledge traverses the fields genome sciences, molecular biology, crop improvement & plant domestication, environmental microbiology, plant-microbe interactions, biochemistry, analytics, drug discovery and applied biotechnology. Mathur’s career spans over 40 years in basic and applied biotechnology with focus on translational science. Eric Mathur is an internationally recognized speaker who authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and is named inventor on 100+ issued patents. Eric’s passion lies in leveraging genome-based technologies to develop nutrient dense foods and therapeutic medicinals; Mathur is also an ardent supporter of sustainable agricultural and does his part to help secure global food & energy security, while minimizing the impact on our fragile environment. By 2019, America had become the world’s third-largest producer, behind Canada and China, where it’s been cultivated for 8,500 years. Since hemp’s inclusion in the 2018 Farm Bill, Rodale’s hemp web page hits have grown 10-fold. Better Products All parts of the hemp plant are useful in multiple ways, and hemp has applications in textiles, construction, bioremediation, technology, nutrition and health, including cannabidiol (CBD). The seeds are rich in protein, essential fatty acids and vitamins. They can be eaten, ground into flour or pressed for oil that is used for cooking or in body care products. The stems undergo decortication to separate the long outer fibers (bast) from the short inner fibers (hurd).
