24.01.2022 The Primary School’s Cross Country is on this Friday at the Ingham Showgrounds! We are looking for volunteers to help with running the canteen on the day from 9:00am onwards. Even if you can only spare an hour, it would be greatly appreciated as it is one of our only fundraising events. We are also looking for help this Wednesday afternoon with shifting appliances such as a freezer and a fryer from the George Day Oval to the Showgrounds canteen. Thank you for any help you can provide.

22.01.2022 Working Bee on this Sunday from 2 onwards. We will be shifting appliances and more from the top of George Day Oval to the clubhouse. This will include fridges and freezers so we will need heavy lifters to help carry them. More hands make less work and your help would be majorly appreciated. Hope to see you there!

18.01.2022 Ready to start the last carnival at the George Day Oval!

17.01.2022 END OF AN ERA The Executive Committee of the Herbert River Athletic Club have made the heartbreaking decision that this year will be the clubs last. The Herbert River Athletic Club was started by George Day to offer the students of Ingham and surrounding areas the opportunity to train and compete in the sport of Athletics. The club has been at its current grounds, The George Day Oval, since the early 70’s. During this time the club hosted two North Queensland Championships an...d has had members go on to compete for Australia in both the Commonwealth and the Olympic Games. During the past several years we have applied for funding with the Department of Sport and Recreation to relocate our grounds to the flood free Ingham State High School, unfortunately our multiple applications have not been successful. The decrease in volunteer numbers has seen the work load fall to two of the executive committee who hold multiple roles within the club. The maintenance of the grounds and buildings, marking of the track, running of the canteen as well as coaching and committee duties have become too much. The George Day Oval is such a lovely area during the athletic season and when filled with students it is a wonderful sight. The continued battle with flooding and constant repairs due to the location is unmanageable. This decision was not made lightly and even as I write this, I feel as though we have failed the founding members, George in particular. Our grounds will host our final carnival this year with the Ingham State High School Inter House Carnival. We are holding a rolling working bee over the school holidays to prepare the track and field’s in preparation of the upcoming carnival. We are seeking help from any former members or members of the public who would have time to come and help us. Please call Brenda on 0427164026 if you are able to help. 11.01.2022 Hi All, There will be a working bee this Wednesday the 8th of July at 9am for the cleaning of the grounds, the long jump pits, the fallen branches and more. If you could spare just a couple hours of your time, it would be greatly appreciated by all HRAC committee members. There will be another working bee later on for additional maintenance. 05.01.2022 Rina and Brenda would like to thank Jayde, Shae, Renee, Jesse, Jordan, Mr H, Mrs DB, Mrs G from ISHS and Michael from GSMC for giving up their Friday afternoon to help mark the track for line marking. Also thanks to Ms H for helping all day Saturday to mark the field events and start marking and Emma for helping Sunday to remove grass and help with marking. Grounds are now ready for our last carnival on Friday July 31st.
