21.01.2022 Our parent body meeting this month is on 28th September. It’s the Monday of the long weekend so pop it in your diary. This month Ericka is going to present Herbs Used in the 30s and 40s... very excited about this, I love hearing the stories of how herbs were used and I know Ericka has been doing some research. There’ll be the usual herb of the month, plants for sale and raffles... looking forward to it

21.01.2022 Hello Herbies. Hope you’ve all been managing well during lockdown. It’s lovely to have some easing of the restrictions. The Committee are starting to meet again soon and we’ll let you know as soon as we can restart our meetings. In the meantime we have been chatting with fellow herb enthusiasts in the UK with a plan to start sharing some information between our two societies, a bit like town twinning but herb twinning! Will keep you updated on progress. We hope you’ve been enjoying the Herb Patch while we haven’t been able to meet, I’ve loved members sharing their gardens and experience. Here’s a few pictures of herbs in my new herb patch... keep well all, looking forward to being able to meet soon...

19.01.2022 Last Monday we finally got to catch up and a great meeting was had. Lots of members turned out on a cold wet night as well as a record number of guests and we had Simon Boyle as our speaker talking about dragon fruit. What an interesting talk it was, lots was learnt and we all now know you can’t call a dragon fruit just white or just red etc. as there are so many varieties. A big thank you to Simon and we’ll have to organise a grafting talk at some stage in the future. Thanks... to Pauline for all the delicious cakes individually wrapped so we adhered to COVID regulations and Vanessa for all the scrummy biscuit parcels... raffles finished the night with a lot of chatting. Looking forward to next month, don’t forget it’s the AGM first so make you have paid your subs to make your vote count. Then Regina is going to show us how to make native bee hotels... see you then... See more

17.01.2022 After our chat from Lynne Chapman from the Heritage Rose Society last year, I went to the Swiss Rose Nursery. Fantastic place, I had a lot of fun and ended up with two damask roses and a rose rugosa which I hope will be useful for hips when it is a bit larger. I have a hankering to make rose hip syrup... This is a late bloom on one of my damask roses, a Quatre Saisons variety, it smells divine...

12.01.2022 What a lovely meeting on Monday, so nice to catch up with everyone. After a quick AGM with the addition of a new committee member we had a fantastic talk about bees, The Bee’s Knees. I learnt a lot about bees, beekeeping and the history of bees and will definitely be trying out the Bee’s Knees cocktail Rounded off with some raffles and a great supper, a thoroughly enjoyable night. Don’t forget there’s no meeting next month because of Anzac Day and then we are back in May. Watch this spot for more news of that meeting... see you all soon

10.01.2022 Hope you’re enjoying the winter edition of the Herbal Thymes, I certainly am. Lots of great articles, thanks for putting it all together Vanessa Scotford

06.01.2022 The meeting last night was very enjoyable. We had a quick AGM, herb of the month talk on Queen Anne’s Lace and a really interesting talk from Regina about native bees. The destruction of their habitat with housing estates and other encroachment into the bush where they live and feed is something we should all be concerned about. The bee hotels that Regina and Trevor have made were great and it’s something we can all do easily. We also had the raffles and an amazing supper supplied by a member of our committee. Wow, what a spread, yummy . Thanks everyone for coming and making it such a lovely evening. Next month Ericka is going to talk about herbs used in the 30s and 40s. See you then...
