18.01.2022 Reintroducing our herb of the month series and for July we want to celebrate: Pelargonium sidoides! Also known as African geranium, Pelargonium has signif...icant antibacterial, antiviral and immune-modulating effects. This herb is most commonly used for respiratory conditions - well suited to this time of year, when coughs and colds abound! Pelargonium can also be given to children and has an astringent, palatable taste. Quiz time: Do you know which part of this plant is used in herbal medicine (answer in the comments)

17.01.2022 Look at those lovely brown mushies! Garlicky Brown rice risotto chock full of shrooms on the pot tonight. Does anyone else marvel at how great their dinner is going to be for their immune system when they cook mushrooms? #naturopaths

15.01.2022 Our own Tina Taylor gave a wonderful presentation @ SEQHerbs (a vibrant Chapter of the NHAA) on the confident treatment of infants and children, covering aspects from herbal and nutrient safety and doing through to discussing some of her favorite Herbs and Nutrients, finishing with some excellent case studies. Fantastic feedback from those who were able to attend https://herbsonthehill.com.au/tina-taylor

15.01.2022 Tomorrow is community clinic day at herbs on the hill Click on the link below for more info or drop in tomorrow Thursday between 8am and 10am to chat to a naturopath

12.01.2022 Some sound generalised dietary guidelines in this article, with a key emphasis on more plant-based foods including plant-based protein. Eating right can be so confusing with the overwhelming differing information out there and its important to remember that it doesnt look the same for every person. What works best for you depends on a variety of factors regarding your health, body and unique circumstances. You can always chat to a naturopath for some guidance on eating well if you need a little advice. In the meantime, find some helpful tips below.

12.01.2022 Consulting Google about health concerns, or signs and symptoms, can cause a lot of confusion, stress and anxiety. If this is something you resonate with, or are doing regularly, there are some great tips and information in this article to assist. Its really important to understand where the information we are reading is coming from, who wrote it, and why. If you are concerned about a particular aspect of your health, making an appointment with a naturopath can be a very help...ful way to educate yourself and address any concerns you may have. have a lovely weekend!

11.01.2022 Move over bone broth and make room for shrooms We talk about mushrooms quite a lot as they are very very medicinal food. Great to start getting into them now to support the immune system as we approach a change of season.... Also FYI mushroom broth is really delish with added miso paste (which has its own medicinal benefits - win win)

11.01.2022 Any time of year is a good time to focus on lots of fruit and vegetables in your diet but its an especially good idea to boost your fresh veggie and fruit intake during cold and flu season to keep your immune system strong. One tip for getting more veggies into your diet is eating them for breakfast. It may sound a little odd but during winter a veggie/tofu broth can be very nourishing and warming for breaky. Just throw your veggies and tofu into a pot of hot water and ad...d some ginger, stock, garlic (and any other extras you may like e.g. turmeric, chilli, coconut oil) and it is done in ten-ish minutes, same time as it takes to cook a pot of porridge. 11.01.2022 The fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the leading health challenges of our time globally. As Naturopaths, we have a huge role in spreading awareness and promoting strategies that reduce the need to use antibiotics. The World Naturopathic Federation is championing these efforts, with tools and information we can use as practitioners to help spread the word, and stop the spread of AMR.... Check out the poster below, and for more info head to https://www.wnf-amr.org/ for more.

10.01.2022 Very productive day in Canberra yesterday..

10.01.2022 After months of gestation the Naturopathic Council of Australia (NCA) was launched yesterday. The NCA is a new coordinating body representing the naturopathic profession. The NCA will provide a united voice on important issues affecting naturopaths in Australia and will be a go-to organisation for external stakeholders such as governments and the media. https://www.facebook.com/NaturopathicCouncilOfAustralia/

10.01.2022 First community clinic sessions for 2020 happening today! Please pass on the info if you know anyone who might benefit from this service

09.01.2022 Fire cider - Its not for the faint hearted but we love it because it is the very best of food as medicine and kitchen remedies. A base fire cider recipe is made with common ingredients many which you may already have in your kitchen (or garden). Fire cider is packed full of health-enhancing nutrients (anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, circulatory stimulants, respiratory system tonics and much more) and you can add more specific herbs and ingredients as your personal needs call for. Its a great daily tonic to take across the months of the year when there are more bugs floating around than usual and just to help stay strong and healthy in general.

09.01.2022 A vibrant profession requires a vibrant education sector. We are delighted Professor Jon Wardle who established and remains a Director of HerbsontheHIll has been announced as the Foundation Director of the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) at Southern Cross University. https://www.scu.edu.au//director-announced-for-new-nationa

07.01.2022 Low mood? A recent Australian study has confirmed that what we eat, really does affect how we feel. If youd like a little more info on some of the dietary changes used in this study to improve mood, then check out our latest article. Have a great weekend Amy

06.01.2022 Good to see some more discussion around pre-menstrual depression happening. PMDD is a very real mood disorder affecting many women and can be difficult to find a beneficial treatment. Fortunately, herbal and naturopathic medicine can be very helpful in the management of PMDD.

06.01.2022 Our Practitioners are very community minded. Taking this the next step Sophia Gerontakos was determined to find a way to engage with the community around their health, from this the HerbsontheHill drop in clinic on Thursday lunch time was born. This then lead Sophia to reach out to the WNF to see what else was happening around the world in this space and she is now leading the research in this area..

05.01.2022 Happy spring! Anyone else feeling a little lighter with the flowers popping and the days warmer? Brisbane is so pretty in Spring Spring always feels like a fresh new beginning ... As the season changes so too will our eating habits - well move from the warm comfort foods towards more lighter meals and salads. Check out this delish spring nutrition bowl recipe from naturopath Insa for some inspiration. And if you feel like you need a bit of a spring tune-up after a particularly slow winter for most of us, why not book an appointment with your naturopath to kick off the warmer months feeling good

05.01.2022 Good news chocaholics, your afternoon choc fix might not be so bad for you... The key with chocolate is (moderation of course) but also selecting a good quality product with a high cocoa content (think 70% and up) and low sugar content. A little good quality chocolate can be good for the heart, body and soul. Enjoy!

03.01.2022 We love these tips for easy ways to self-soothe during stress and anxiety. Some of these you can do anywhere and they can be quite useful for bringing you out of a state of anxiety and back into the present moment. Try one or some out and see what works for you.

03.01.2022 Sometimes ... When there is so much going on externally we forget to checkout what is happening internally When the health of the world is all we hear about we forget to checkout our own health personally When you find the time to settle and regroup we remind you we are here for all your health needs naturally The rest of our bodies dont take a break just because everything is upside down and our head is overloaded... We are getting used to the virtual consulting idea and it is working well.. If you are not sure how it works, please reach out and let us know so we can work together to achieve the best outcome.. Talk soon See more

02.01.2022 As we are now implementing social distancing in the face of the growing pandemic, you might like to consider applying for a postal vote .. application close Monday 16th https://www.ecq.qld.gov.au//2020-local-government-elections

01.01.2022 Changes: an update from Sophia Due to the unusual and challenging public health crisis we are facing, the Thursday community clinic is currently closed to in-person visits. However, I am still dedicated to supporting my community in any way I can during this challenging time. If you require support that you would normally seek through the community clinic, please email me at [email protected] to organise a phone or video chat. We will all move through t...his together, whilst remaining physically separate for the good of all. Take care and chat soon, Sophia
