16.01.2022 This printing press has produced more than printed history, it’s also been at the centre of its own story a duel to the death. The Ruthven Printing Press was... used to produce the first printed newspaper in Western Australia, The Fremantle Observer, Perth Gazette and Journal, on 5 April 1831. After changing hands a couple of times, the press was purchased by a new group of partners and used to print The Western Australian and The Inquisitor. Two of the partners, W. Nairne Clark and G.F. Johnson, argued when Clark accused Johnson of ‘clandestine transactions’ and Clark shot Johnson dead in a duel in Fremantle. Clarke was called to trial, but the jury refused to record a conviction. This story and many others will feature in the Reflections gallery in the new Western Australian Museum, opening this November. The West Australian

12.01.2022 This is my tired face. This one’s for @elroddandy and the rest of the mansplainers of the world, who feel they need to assert their demeaning corrections and ch...allenges upon young women in their field. I’m TIRED of it and I know there are many more badass women ahead of me who have been dealing with this misogynistic bull for far longer than I have. It’s gotten to the point where I feel I can’t share any letterpress knowledge on this platform without being shamed by some old tradesman for doing so, shamed for sharing information that was passed down to me through my many teachers. Sure, we all have blind spots and gaps in our knowledge, and sure, I am always open to filling those gaps by RESPECTFUL teachers, but that doesn’t call for being rudely slammed and spitefully challenged to successfully do my job. It’s of no surprise to me that my method for building the border around this wedding suite would work, allowing me to lift this chase without any type or spacing falling through, because I understand the physics of letterpress through my decade of work within the medium. I understand the physics & rules enough that I know when it’s time to break them to get the effect I’m going for. This is how we adapt. This is how the medium is pushed forward with new & exciting techniques & effects. This is how the world changes for the better. To borrow a quote from my mom’s hero, Grace Hopper: The most dangerous phrase in the language is, ‘we’ve always done it this way’. #downwiththepatriarchy #misogynysucks #gracehopper #adaptation #movingforward #mansplainers #mansplainerssuck #fuckthepatriarchy #thefutureisfemale #letterpressartist #letterpressprinter #letterpressstudio #typography #metaltype #toxiclegos #womenwholead #feminist #feminismforall #fuckyourpatriarchy #notmypatriarchy #ladiesofletterpress See more

10.01.2022 A message to our friends and family in Victoria: We can only imagine the challenges and sacrifices you have had to make. With every morning we've held our brea...ths with you to await good news. And now, with encouraging results in recent days, we hope that the situation will continue to improve. The hard border may be keeping us physically divided, but our hearts remain with you. Your efforts aren't just for Victoria - they have helped the nation as a whole. The sooner the situation is under control in Victoria, the better for all Australians. The number of lives you've saved won’t be known, but your efforts will never be forgotten. I think I speak for all Western Australians when I say that we‘re thinking of you, and we will not forget the sacrifices you have made. Thank you.

04.01.2022 This is an Asteroid Jobber Press c. 1875. A truly one of a kind press and extremely rare, we know of no others in existence. Its uniqueness can be seen in its c...ompletely vertical design and its rectangular disc that rotates one quarter at a time. It's impression lever is also unique in that instead of moving the platen back when taken off impression like most platen presses, it moves the bed of the press back, and thus prevents over inking! 03.01.2022 Well deserved typesetting awards . . .
