24.01.2022 Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Q&A Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a misunderstood disorder. It is even misnamed as women with PCOS do not have cysts. It is linked to reproductive, metabolic and psychological dysfunction. Researchers are making headway to understanding the causes and impacts of PCOS which affects about 10% of adolescents and women (with up to 70% of cases undiagnosed). Last year the Australian PCOS Centre for Research Excellence led the development and... release of new international guidelines on the assessment and management of this disorder. Variants in PCDH19 cause Girls Clustering Epilepsy (GCE), an early-onset seizure disorder. The clinical spectrum of GCE varies significantly, even amongst individuals in the same family. This work demonstrates that seizure onset before 12 months is associated with more severe intellectual disability, which will aid prognostic counseli...ng.
