19.01.2022 Getting some good coverage of this import project. https://www.9news.com.au//0a54f64b-7317-4c30-95f2-21fc9e09

19.01.2022 Excellent story in today’s Weekly Times. See contact details at end of story. It builds on our Keeping Carbon on the Farm project that among other things offsets the effects of climate change. THE Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation has pumped nearly $300,000 into a Heytesbury project to show how increasing soil carbon can benefit food production. Twenty farms in the Heytesbury district will be sought to take part in the two-year project funded by the foundation through the El...don and Anne Foote Trust, a $140 million philanthropic trust set up by Melbourne lawyer and businessman Eldon Foote. Dairy farmers, along with beef, sheep or other primary producers, can submit an expression of interest to the Heytesbury District Landcare Network, which is leading the program, backed by Deakin University, the Corangamite Shire, Triple R Biochar and other organisations. Results will be shared through field days, discussion groups and other activities. HDLN co-ordinator Geoff Rollinson said the research would measure soil health improvements and rises in the nutrient and vitamin value of farm produce. Mr Rollinson said the research would begin by carrying out baseline testing on each participating farm, including soil mineral tests and milk mineral analysis. Further testing would be carried out over the lifetime of the project to determine changes as a result of practices to boost soil carbon. The objective is that over the two-year period, landholders should see improvements in those parameters and develop strategies to improve soil health and ecosystem function, he said. While farmers say it takes four or five years for results to see change in soil carbon projects, we hope to see some sort of shift in two years. Mr Rollinson said the HDLN project was one of four short-listed projects from an initial field of 55 which made submissions to the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation. He travelled to Melbourne to present to the foundation and was told a week later the group had $298,000 in funding. Farmers wanting to take part in the project can contact Mr Rollinson at [email protected] or phone 0427 983 755.

17.01.2022 Heytesbury District Landcare Network in association with a number of specialist partners is running a project called Increasing Soil Carbon. As part of this regenerative ag project (funded by the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation), we're hosting a workshop/field day on Tuesday April 6. Here's your opportunity to see how 20 land managers in the Heytesbury District are driving change that will help reduce the impacts of climate change, boost productivity and value the benefits of improved soil biology.

17.01.2022 Congratulations to the project team and the Doolan family for having the foresight to be part of this innovative regenerative Ag project.

16.01.2022 A great little video explaining the value of soil biology in the process of nitrogen fixation. Acacia species also assist which is why we include them in our plantings. Our regenerative ag project Activating Soil Biology is one example of how encouraging beneficial bacteria and other soil biology including worms can build soil health.

16.01.2022 In some technical, but very important work, the Surveyor General of Victoria (SGV) is conducting a huge data project that will have lasting benefits for the soo...n to-be-established Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) and other agencies in the region ongoing. Using a combination of road and airborne based mobile laser scanning, aerial photography survey along and old-fashioned foot work, SGV has painstakingly surveyed the entire 243-kilometre length of the Great Ocean Road to create a three dimensional database (point cloud) that defines the Great Ocean Road and features 500 m each side of the road. It will provide the authority with up-to-date and detailed information about public land, foreshore boundaries, land use types and the location of assets. This ensures planning and management decisions reflect accurately what’s happening on the ground and is a first for the region, including the potential for 3D road view (streetscape) models to show the impacts of proposed road projects and buildings for more accurate planning and to inform community engagement. For more information on SGV see: https://www.propertyandlandtitles.vic.gov.au//about-the-su

16.01.2022 We're running a number of projects that relate to increasing soil carbon and organic matter content & planting trees...all of which reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Here's an incentive to reduce energy costs on dairy farms that may well complement these activities...worth a read. https://www.msn.com//boost-for-australian-dair/ar-BB15NIDo

16.01.2022 Good to see this project is underway, landholders in the HDLN region welcome to request an Expression of Interest (EOI) form...email Geoff Rollinson at [email protected]

16.01.2022 Another day at the office. These trials are under the Heytesbury District Landcare Network banner, and will compare soil carbon and production between regen practice and standard practice plots. Great to be involved

13.01.2022 A terrific interview about regenerative agriculture.

12.01.2022 Posted on the Heytesbury Landcare FB page a little while ago. Cobrico Lake Direct Seeding and Drones...... Hope to present the longer version at a Presentation Day/Evening soon....

09.01.2022 Thanks to Cobden Timboon Coast Times for publicising this exciting and innovative project. Thanks also to DELWP, XAG, Direct Seed and others including Paul for putting it together.

09.01.2022 Time for a bit of a hill climb in the Heytesbury. Quickest way up a 45 degree slope to check site preparation spots is straight up.

09.01.2022 Dear OH DEER! Heytesbury Landcare have been approached by Arthur Rylah Institute to collect data/information from local Deer Populations. Not seeking Personal Information just data on Deer in the Heytesbury District or further a field. Please contact Projects Officer via email - [email protected]

08.01.2022 Out on the Rail Trail near Timboon the other day to check out recent weed control works. Some evidence of success but the long term challenges of funding and volunteerism continue to frustrate efforts to control weeds.

07.01.2022 The momentum for building soil carbon (& health) is gaining momentum globally. https://www.producer.com//u-s-ag-secretary-wants-soil-car/

06.01.2022 Doing our bit in the community

04.01.2022 Today on National Agriculture Day #AgDayAU, Landcare Australia, in partnership with the National Landcare Network (NLN), have launched a national Landcare Farmi...ng campaign ‘My Landcare Legacy’ to engage primary producers to share their landcare stewardship story. The ‘My Landcare Legacy’ campaign is the first step in building broader recognition of Landcarers who have been developing and supporting adoption of improved practices in Australian agriculture for over 30 years. By simply recording a video, Australian producers and land managers can share with the community why they are passionate about being good stewards of their land and their vison for our farming future. Standout producers, networks and their Landcare projects will be identified during the campaign with Awards presented for best video, rising star award, best actor, longest distance a kit has travelled. 03.01.2022 The opportunity to offset adverse climate change effects is to embrace the concept of regenerative agriculture. Keeping Carbon on the Farm and other regenerative ag projects we’re involved with are local examples of good things happening in the landscape. Ditto with Moyne Shire who have declared a climate emergency and are providing incentives for farmers to assist in the effort. Charles Massy is a thought leader and practitioner in this space.

01.01.2022 An excellent day yesterday with this Increasing Soil Carbon project. Thanks to all who attended, the Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation and WIN TV for this coverage.

01.01.2022 Fantastic day today when the Corangamite CMA team visited the Heytesbury District. The day started with a visit to the Davis' farm in Jancourt for a chat about their riparian planting, Green Pastures milk and sustainable farming practices (thanks Grant and Reggie). For the HDLN crew it concluded at the Curdies River Trestle bridge with lunch and coffee. Fish ladders, Australian Grayling in good numbers and fine company, what else could you wish for? Thanks Sarah, Gene and co. for taking the time to visit and Paul for the pics.
