20.01.2022 Prescribed burning is used by National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia to reduce the likelihood and severity of bushfire on communities and the environment, and to enhance biodiversity. The Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board is proud to partner with NPWSSA to deliver this program throughout the region. This photo shows a recent fuel reduction burn on Brick Kiln Road at Heathfield which has helped reduce the risk of bushfire impacting on homes, the nearby SA Water ...Treatment Plant, Heathfield High School and Adelaide Hills Council Depot. Photo: Sophie Bass With the fire danger season in the Mount Lofty Ranges commencing on December 1, it’s important to have a Bushfire Survival Plan, prepare your property and have a plan in place for total fire ban days. Visit SA Country Fire Service for details: https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au/home/ For more information on prescribed burns visit https://bit.ly/379MkLD If smoke, fire or lightning triggers distress, please know this is a normal reaction after our recent experience of bushfires. 18.01.2022 Didn’t get a chance to watch the first National Landcare Conference webinar on recruiting and engaging volunteers? Don’t worry, we’ve put together a summary of the five steps for effective volunteer engagement. ACTIVITY-Get specific. Think about the activities, tasks and roles you’re r recruiting for. AUDIENCE-Who might be the likely audience? Start collecting names and contact details, and having one-on-one conversations.... ASK-Ask in a positive, engaging way, and make it clear what the potential new volunteer will gain from the activity as well as what you’re asking them to contribute. ACTION-Ask them to do something meaningful right away, and think about the way new members are involved and incorporated into the group. ALLIES-Think about engaging people through their life journeys, from school to retirement. Creating allies is important, and benefits the organisation in a huge way. If you’d like more info, you can still view the recording here https://bit.ly/39gVwjZ Landcare Australia

17.01.2022 Learning in lockdown! When the new COVID safety measures were announced, Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator Sophie Bass didn’t want the participants of the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board’s bushfire recovery and rural land management course to miss out. Instead, this week’s session was delivered online. With the help of Sustainable Agriculture Officer James Hall, participants created a plan for their land to help them achieve their vision statement for their property. Subscribe to our Regional Landcare News to find out about future training events! https://bit.ly/2UHEiDV This course was supported by the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board through funding from the National Landcare Program. Thanks also to Primary Industries and Regions SA and Adelaide Hills Council for sponsoring this course.

10.01.2022 Some great information here about one of our most common woody weeds.

09.01.2022 The Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board has been supporting local landholders to control rabbits. At our distribution day held recently at Mount Barker, over 40 landholders picked up K5 calicivirus-treated carrots to help control feral rabbits. At the same distribution day, landholders affected by the 2019 Cudlee Creek fire were able to buy K5 treated carrots at a subsidised cost, thanks to additional funding from the Australian Government's National Landcare Program. The boar...d also put together a video to help landholders understand how to use the K5 carrots. To ensure the best level of control, many neighbours are working together to release the calicivirus at the same time. This will be followed up in summer by baiting with pindone carrots, to remove young rabbits which tend to be less susceptible to calicivirus. Image: Darren Clements https://bit.ly/373MvYA See more
