02.01.2022 HIBBARD SPORTS BOWLS CLUB RAISES $2250 FOR CANCER On Wednesday, 21st October, 2020, the Hibbard Sports Bowls Club held their annual charity day in aid of cancer research and treatment for the local Port Macquarie Base Hospital. The Pink/Blue day, held at the Hibbard Sport Club, had a near capacity crowd turn up to have a game of bowls, a great luncheon and participate in the raffle and trade table offerings. A wonderful amount of over $2250 was raised in the process and will... be handed over to the local Oncology representative shortly. A win/win for both cause and Club. Special mention must go to the Club’s Riverside Fusion Bistro owner, Chris Shen, for his wonderful donation of the entire luncheon costs of $580 to the cause. This was followed by the Club Limited donating $240 of its green fees as well. Individual donations from Gae Millican, Chris James, Stephen Whitmarsh, Ken Little and many more, added to the quality of the goods for sale and raffle prizes on offer that resulted in the generous amount raised. Many thanks go to the Bowls Club volunteers, especially the ladies, headed up by Loraine Suters and ably assisted by Sue Gates, Robyn Crosariol, Estelle Long, Flo King and Rita Schnell, just to name a few. The table arrangements and decorations gave the day a special status, as did the visit from the Pink Panther (Kath Sweeney in disguise) and we cannot forget Ruth Henning, our Life Member, who sold raffle tickets most of the day. John O’Neill and Jim Scott collected the entry and luncheon fees and Club Treasurer, Sharon Wright, was in the counting house counting out the money all day. Many thanks for that, as it’s a big job and was ably handled. The Club’s wrong bias box, when emptied, contributed well over $100 for the cause. A spider was run on both greens, with Spiderwoman, Dawn Olsen and Spiderman, Brian Pearce, taking home the major prizes. Each and every other participant received a prize just for their effort and gold coin donation. When the morning games were over, all adjourned to the Clubhouse for a well-earned refreshment and during the course of a lovely lunch, were entertained by our resident ‘Joker, Antoinette Farmer and her rendition of a funny ‘Sex on Sundays’ joke. The bells of the Mister Whippy van will bring a smile to most people’s lips from now on. Finally, raffle time, more trade table transactions and the final announcement by Sharon of the total raised. Many thanks to all who shared in the day and made it possible and special thanks to the Club and Greens staff for your efforts on the day. We look forward to the next Pink/Blue Day in 2021 and hope to see more smiling faces then. Cheers and regards, Ken Errington (on behalf of the Bowls Club) 23/10/2020.
