11.01.2022 We love our beautiful city!

10.01.2022 The Fraser Coast's nearby cousin town of Childers is a delightful place, just a hop skip and a jump up the highway. Not a part of the Fraser Coast, but in the Wide Bay area, Childers is a beautiful neighboring town only about 45 minutes north of Maryborough. The quaint town is picturesque with it's tree lined streets and many historical buildings. The many pieces of street art has been carefully chosen to accentuate the gentle feel of the town and attention to detail has be...en considered, right down to the little lizards and frogs cast in to the bronze balustrade on the roadsides. Childers folk take pride in their village. The streets are clean and tidy, the garden beds tended to maintain a lush, country cottagey feel. At Christmas time the many leopard trees along the streets are tied with large red festive bows. It's a welcoming site for travelers! The region is well known for its rich red soil and the sweeping views as you enter the town are striking with green farm lands against the red oxide earth. The annual Childers Festival is a huge cultural event where they block off the main street, (which is the highway!) and line the roads with food stalls galore! Thousands of people come to enjoy the festival and feast on the culinary delights and the music in the warm, vibrant atmosphere. The festival runs each year on the last weekend of July and is well worth the drive to enjoy this fabulous event. A landmark to Childers is everyone's favorite Mammino ice cream. Nestled amongst the cane fields, the birthplace of the delicious icey treat has been a delightful place to visit since 1996 when Teena & Anthony Mammino began selling macadamias on the roadside and then developed their grandmothers old-style ice cream recipe, and the rest is history! Other things to do in Childers include visiting the Pharmaceutical Museum, the Childers Art Gallery, Military Museum, Historical Society, Flying High Bird Park and Snakes Downunder. There are a number of wineries to visit or grab a coffee and cake in one of the lovely cafes. The Paragon Theatre is a stunning Art Deco building with an espresso bar and it's great to see the old theatre still in operation! Childers is a beautiful town, perfect for a day trip to visit your own back yard.

06.01.2022 Love to support local talents!

04.01.2022 A very special treasure in Hervey Bay is the beautiful Orchid House in the Botanical Gardens. The Orchid House was officially re-opened in 2019 by Mayor Seymour after a major revamp. Boasting a wonderful display of a wide range of stunning orchids, carefully grown and tended to by volunteers of the Hervey Bay Orchid Society, there is also a selection of gifts and the onsite attendants are happy to help with any questions you may have. ... The Hervey Bay Botanical Gardens are a relaxing and truly beautiful place to visit, but for a real treat you must spend some time amongst the quietness and the breathtaking blooms in the Orchid House. Open Monday to Friday 9:00am to 2:30pm Free Entry!

04.01.2022 Bush street art or vandalism? Roads signs around our region have been receiving creative make overs. But should they stay or should they go?
