This is why we are ignoring totals and using the models to... track the direction of the event. Ignoring the rain amounts we can see that the troughs are deepening as forecasted which should see an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity over the weekend. At this stage patchy and isolated shower and thunderstorm activity should hang around for the week ahead as an East Coast Low is looking to form on the east coast of NSW. More to come. 07.01.2022 WELL ABOVE AVERAGE RAINFALL FOR MANY AREAS COMING INTO OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER. Well it is no surprise if you have been following this page for quite some tim...e, that we are in for a wet period across Australia. Most longer term weather modelling agencies are indicating a very wet period between October and March of next year. In the short-term, the next 46 days displayed below from the European weather agency, indicates some very strong signals for rainfall. If this does indeed eventuate, then the risk of flooding will be increasing as we go through spring through parts of SE Australia to begin with before shifting north and northeast through summer. Higher than average sea surface temperatures around Australia and the potential for the Indian Ocean to flip into a negative phase (meaning more moisture and rainfall potential for large parts of the country), this could lead to significant periods of wet and humid weather. It is likely today that the bureau of meteorology is going to issue a La Niña event is underway across the Pacific basin, which means a wet spell of weather is expected across portions of Australia. The La Niña event combined with the negative Indian Ocean dipole and higher than average sea surface temperatures usually lead to quite significant storm seasons over Australia, enhance wet season over the north with more active monsoons that like to shift further south as well. Now is the time to prepare for a wet phase across Australia. The risk of flooding is elevated through our spring and summer, and this may even drag into early autumn of next year depending on how the monsoon behaves on the northern Australia. The data displayed below is the average/main value that one could reasonably expect over the next seven weeks, but that doesn’t mean you will receive this amount, it could be more or a could be less.
