23.01.2022 CURRENT PLANNED BURNS AT THREE RESERVOIRS A private contractor on behalf of Coliban water will commence firebreak burning at Lauriston Reservoir and move onto U...pper Coliban Reservoir over the coming fortnight. The Malmsbury Reservoir site burn will most likely occur last in the schedule. They expect that firebreak preburn operations will be completed by May 19, 2017, however, this is entirely dependent on experiencing preferred climatic conditions. Once firebreak preburn activities are complete, the Macedon Ranges Shire Council Fire Management Officer will inspect, assess and grant permission to procede with main burn ignition. They expect main burn ignition and planned burns to occur between mid-May and early-June of 2017. All burn activity will be registered with Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority on the morning of planned ignition.

10.01.2022 It was a proud and historic moment as Loddon Mallee crews lit the first traditional planned burn in Victoria in partnership with Dja Dja Wurrung. This is the st...art of our journey to incorporate traditional burning into our planned burning program. Loddon Mallee Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Scott Falconer said: This marks the return of thousands of years of Aboriginal land management practices. I dont think its possible to overstate the historic importance of this moment, he said. This area is complex and were learning together as we go. Were directly responding to Elders wishes and reintroducing thousands of years of fire practice, often described using terms such as cool, or mosaic burning, he said. Traditional burns are cooler, slower burns, with fires lit in patches and allowed to take their natural paths. Dja Dja Wurrung Aboriginal Clans Corporation CEO Rodney Carter said: For thousands of years our people managed this Country successfully and fire was integral to that effort. That gardening of this landscape, as we refer to it, was interrupted some 200 years ago with devastating results for our people and the environment. I now regularly cite Forest Fire Management Victorias approach as the gold standard in terms of walking the talk of not just reconciliation, but genuine shared management and mutual respect."
