16.01.2022 A wonderful story from Louise and Lexi. A partnership in life to strive for.

15.01.2022 Many will be aware that the UK will leave the EU at the end of this year! There are implications in relation to members and Highland ponies domiciled in the EU.... We are currently working very actively putting in place procedures to prevent any disruption to the very special relationship we have with all our daughter stud books and all members and owners throughout the EU. This does not affect any non EU overseas countries. All members will be informed of the changes as soon as we are able. See more

14.01.2022 Snow doesn't stop Highlands eating. The girls are extremely well equipped for this weather with their double coats, strong hooves for digging and soft muzzles w...ith broad nostrils and lots of whiskers to help them smell and sense the best spots to dig. In our herd we try to mimic the ponies natural environment as much as possible. Our ponies have access to plenty of space and to a variety of natural food to pick through, from grass to gorse and hawthorn. Even though there is no scarcity of food we do like to also supplement the diet by feeding hay in poor weather. This helps to ensure the girls keep warm from the inside out. Our two oldest ladies, Koko (background) and Luath (foreground). #healdtownstud #koko #luath #herdygirls #simplesystemhorsefeeds #snowday #snowponies #highlandponies

10.01.2022 A quick post foaling update. ANNIE has received 1ml of Oxytocin the morning/evening of Saturday (day after foaling) and the morning of Sunday to help her clean up after foaling. This morning she had some mucky discharge which wasn’t surprising as she didn’t have the cleanest of Placentas. She came through the crush for the vet to flush today who has prescribed a week of routine antibiotics. Annie was weighed at 526kg (great weight for her!) and Arthur’s weight was 47kg ... I think Arthur enjoyed his outing...see in comments.

10.01.2022 A Good Mare Theres something different about the way a good mare connects with her rider. Its special. Like an unspoken agreement. Once a mare chooses you a...s her person, its like she has an instinct to protect you, to fight for you. Its almost as if she takes ownership of you. I believe the good mares have a deep sense of intuition. They can read your mind. They know what youre thinking even before you do. The good mares I know breathe fire in the face of challenge and then somehow, miraculously, know to quiet themselves when a timid child is plopped on their back for a pony ride. They are clever, cunning and calculated, which can be your greatest enemy or your saving grace. The good mares I know do not tolerate egotistical riding. They do not tolerate force. They demand tact, finesse and emotional control. But once you have won a mares heart, you have won all of her. In exchange for your bestand nothing lessshe will give you everything. 05.01.2022 354 days pregnant... Today was a better day than yesterday: where I spent most the afternoon trying to stay cool under my sunshade. Today my human gave me a bath in the hope to capture me clean before the birth of my first child. Call it a pregnancy photo shoot if you will...however I out smarted her, and found the muddiest patch I could in this paddock and smothered as much dirt as possible on me in an attempt to cover up my identity....it worked. My human gave up easily after a few snaps of the side I couldn’t reach (due to enormous bump) and then I could get back to doing what I do best - eating - Annie
