23.01.2022 Wingecarribee Shire Council are looking to develop a new facilities strategy. The first step is to seek out information from community members in relation to our sport and rec needs. Please take some time to complete the survey.... The more we let council know what we need, the more chance we have of it coming to fruition.

23.01.2022 Wingecarribee Shire Council is taking it's first steps towards developing a new strategy that supports sports and active recreation. To help with this process, they invite you all to be involved in their initial research/survey. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and asks questions around: - The types of sports and recreational activities you and your family participate in, in and out of the shire - The types of facilities that would assist you in being act...ive within the shire - Any potential barriers to your participation - Areas within the Highlands that you would like to see improved. 20 minutes may seem like a large chunk of your day, however it's important that we let council know what we need. The more we do this, the more chance we have of it coming to fruition. www.yoursaywingecarribee.com.au/active-recreation

23.01.2022 Happy Test Day!

22.01.2022 Here's hoping for some nicer weather and a full round of club and rep cricket. Please remember to follow our COVID guidelines and see one of the COVID Safety Officers (Yellow Vest or Black C armband) to register via the QR code.

22.01.2022 Congratulations Hayden Willebrand, selected to represent Greater Illawarra in the Bradman Cup and Jack Whitfield as the assistant coach of the colts.

22.01.2022 What's your decision? Our 2 northern towns/villages are playing a super intense game in 3rd grade at Yerrinbool Oval, on Government Road. The innings is being umpired by the batting team. The medium pacer comes in to bowl, bowls the ball at a full length. The batsman makes no effort to offer a shot and pads the ball away down towards fine leg. The batsman, knowing full well that they have not met the criteria for a run, set off anyhow - just to see if they can squeeze in a le...g bye with the player/umpire adjudicating. Fine leg runs in and has a good throw at the stumps and the striker is out of his crease - hits the stumps. A few of the fielding team go up for a shout of 'Howzat?', and the other fielders are not quite sure. What's your decision? Thank you to the HDCUA for these questions.

21.01.2022 Another great weekend of cricket ahead of us. Remember to remain COVID safe.

21.01.2022 The true gem of HDCA cricket. A fantastic example of mateship and inclusion. This is cricket! Will Clarke you are a legend!

21.01.2022 The weather forecast is looking kinder for our Saturday matches. Sunday fines up too. Good luck to everyone involved in games this weekend. Remember to follow our COVID safe guidelines and check in at each venue.

21.01.2022 Good luck to James Morton, Elliott Brookes and Matthew Pike currently representing the Illawarra Flames in Bathurst Vs the Orana Outlaws. Winner goes on to the final of the Plan B Big Bash at the SCG.

21.01.2022 ALL Junior and Senior HDCA Cricket matches have been cancelled for today. Perhaps a cricket playing shark would make a good Halloween costume?

20.01.2022 What's your decision? While playing at a fair delivery the striker puts his wicket down, removing a bail with his right foot. The ball then hits his pad satisfying all the conditions for LBW before rolling along the ground and knocking the remaining bail off the striker's wicket. Upon appeal, what is the umpire's decision on method of dismissal: a)Hit Wicket... b) LBW c) Bowled Thank you to the HDCUA for providing this question

20.01.2022 What's your decision? On Monday we asked: While playing at a fair delivery the striker puts his wicket down, removing a bail with his right foot. The ball then hits his pad satisfying all the conditions for LBW before rolling along the ground and knocking the remaining bail off the striker's wicket. Upon appeal, what is the umpire's decision on method of dismissal:... a)Hit Wicket b) LBW c) Bowled Answer: Bowled - Law 32.2 Congratulations to all of you who answered correctly. The fine print: 32.2 Bowled to take precedence The striker is out Bowled if his/her wicket is put down as in 32.1, even though a decision against him/her for any other method of dismissal would be justified. Thank you to the HDCUA for providing this question.

20.01.2022 What a beautiful day for cricket! Remember to slip, slip, slap today and follow our COVID plan. We’d love to see your photos pop them in the comments or send them through to the page via messenger.

20.01.2022 What's your decision? Final one for 2020 (How on earth did we get here so quickly!?). We'll pick back up again at the end of January. Question:... You are the bowler’s end umpire. Due to high winds, you have dispensed with bails. The striker plays a defensive shot and the ball rolls slowly back towards the stumps and comes to rest just touching the leg stump. Had bails been in place, you believe that they wouldn’t have been dislodged. There is an appeal. What is your decision? Thank you to Angus of the HDCUA for these questions.

20.01.2022 We got caught a glimpse of this guy today let's hope it hangs around to dry out some of the grounds around the shire. Our junior competition has now broken up for the Christmas holiday and will return 30/01/2021. First Grade play the first of their T20 double headers this weekend, with the first game starting at 11am and the second at 3pm.... Good luck everyone!

20.01.2022 What's your decision? On Monday we asked: Scenario:... Playing at Boronia Park, a medium pacer is bowling. The wicket keeper is standing back a few paces from the stumps. The batsman, playing some aggressive shots, advances down the wicket looking to clear the boundary off a fair delivery - but misses it completely. The wicket keeper doesn't take the ball cleanly, and the batsman seeing this is in no rush to get behind the crease. The keeper finally gathers the ball, and seeing the batsman is out of the crease throws the ball at the stumps. The ball hits the stumps, the bails come off the batsman is out of his crease - OUT! What's the entry in the score book? a) Run Out b) Stumped - the wicket credited to the bowler Answer: Stumped - the wicket credited to the bowler Congratulations to all of you who provided the correct answer. The fine print - Law 39 Stumped 39.1 Out Stumped 39.1.1 The striker is out Stumped if a ball which is delivered is not called No ball and he/she is out of his/her ground, other than as in 39.3.1 and he/she has not attempted a run when his/her wicket is fairly put down by the wicket-keeper without the intervention of another fielder. 39.1.2 The striker is out Stumped if all the conditions of 39.1.1 are satisfied, even though a decision of Run out would be justified. 39.2 Ball rebounding from wicket-keeper’s person If the wicket is put down by the ball, it shall be regarded as having been put down by the wicket-keeper if the ball: rebounds on to the stumps from any part of the wicket-keeper’s person or equipment or has been kicked or thrown on to the stumps by the wicket-keeper. Thank you to the HDCUA for providing these questions.

19.01.2022 This weekend is forecast to be a hot one. Remember to slip, slop, slap and prepare with plenty of water. Our extreme heat policy can be found as part of the Member Regulations on the HDCA website (under the library tab).... We're seeing a relaxing of the COVID restrictions across the country, however it is imperative that we maintain our COVID-safe practices to ensure the safety of all of our community. Please follow the instructions of the COVID-marshals at each game. Good luck everyone!

15.01.2022 What's your decision? On Monday we asked: At Tourist Rd Oval, with the longest boundaries in the district, the bowler comes in, the batsman hits a glorious drive out to long on and has completed 1 run and commences the 2nd run. The fielder at long on, throws the ball in, but being a long boundary, the ball hits the bowler's cap which is at the start of the bowler's run-up. The batsmen have not crossed for their 2nd run when the ball hits the cap. What's your decision for the ...following? How many runs are scored from this delivery? Which end do the batsmen go to for the next delivery? Answer: One run is scored - the moment the ball hits the cap it becomes 'dead' The batsmen go to the end of where they completed the 1st run i.e. the batsman who hit the ball (the striker) would become the non-striker for the next delivery The fine print: Playing Condition p4 HDCA 1st and 2nd/3rd Grade Storage of equipment during play At the conclusion of the previous over, the new bowler must place their equipment, that would normally be provided to the umpire (hat, sunglasses, vest etc), on the ground directly behind bowler’s end wicket and in line with where the bowler commences their run-up. The bowler is responsible for the storage and collection of the material from this area. Should the ball strike this equipment during play, the ball shall become dead. As normally this material would not be stored in this area (there will be no award of 5 penalty runs in this instance). 18.9 Runs scored when the ball becomes dead other than at the fall of a wicket When the ball becomes dead for any reason other than the fall of a wicket, or is called dead by an umpire, unless there is specific provision otherwise in the Laws, any runs for penalties awarded to either side shall be scored. Note however the provisions of Laws 23.3 (Leg byes not to be awarded) and 28.3 (Protective helmets belonging to the fielding side). Additionally the batting side shall be credited with, all runs completed by the batsmen before the incident or call of Dead ball and the run in progress if the batsmen had already crossed at the instant of the incident or call of Dead ball. 18.12.2 Batsmen returning to the wicket he/she left If, while a run is in progress, the ball becomes dead for any reason other than the dismissal of a batsman, the batsmen shall return to the wickets they had left, but only if they had not already crossed in running when the ball became dead. Congratulations to Dale Wellington for supplying the correct answer. Thanks to the HDCUA for these questions.

15.01.2022 unfortunately all junior cricket has been cancelled this morning. Stay safe and dry everyone. UPDATE: all senior cricket has also been cancelled.

14.01.2022 What's your decision? On Monday we asked: Question:... Answer: Give the striker out, Bowled. When bails are dispensed with, for the wicket to have been put down, it is sufficient for the wicket to have been struck by the ball. (29.4.1) Congratulations to Tony Capps for supplying the correct answer. The fine print: Law 8.5 8.5 Dispensing with bails The umpires may agree to dispense with the use of bails, if necessary. If they so agree then no bails shall be used at either end. The use of bails shall be resumed as soon as conditions permit. See Law 29.4 (Dispensing with bails) Law 29.4.1 - Dispensing with the bails. 29.4.1 After a decision to play without bails, the wicket has been put down if the umpire concerned is satisfied that the wicket has been struck by the ball, by the striker’s bat, person or items of his/her clothing or equipment That wraps up "What's your decision" for this calendar year. Thanks for playing along. We'll be back with some more weekly scenarios at the end of January.

Please make their job easy by following our guidelines * These marshals will have a copy of our sign in register QR Code. 12.01.2022 Great photos by Phil’s cricket shots. If you haven’t already, give the page a like. You never know when he might turn up at one of your matches. Disclaimer: Phil is a member of the Wingello Tigers Cricket Club and as such the majority of his photos are of matches played against them. This weekend he was able to photograph: 1st grade - Hill Top Vs Wingello... 3rd grade - Bowral Kookaburras Vs Wingello 3rd grade - Bowral Cavaliers Vs Mittagong See more

12.01.2022 What's your decision? You are the bowler’s end umpire. The bowler has entered his delivery stride when, in the upswing of the bowling action, he accidently puts the wicket down with the hand holding the ball with the non-striker out of his ground. The umpire sees this but, as there is no appeal, you call and signal No ball and allow the play to proceed. The delivery is played to the cover boundary for four. As you finish signaling to the scorers, a fielder at mid-wicket turns to you and appeals for the run out. What happens next? (Hint Laws 31.1, 31.3 and 41.16) Thank you to the HDCUA for this question.

A few of the fielding team go up for a shout of 'Howzat?', and the other fielders are not quite sure. What's your decision? Answer: Out - Run out Congratulations to Scott McKie and Tony Capps on providing the correct answer. The fine print: Law 23.2.1 23.2 Leg byes 23.2.1 If a ball delivered by the bowler first strikes the person of the striker, runs shall be scored only if the umpire is satisfied that the striker has either attempted to play the ball with the bat or tried to avoid being hit by the ball 23.3 Leg byes not to be awarded If in the circumstance of 23.2.1 the umpire considers that neither of the conditions therein has been met, then Leg byes shall not be awarded. If the ball does not become dead for any other reason, the umpire shall call and signal Dead ball as soon as the ball reaches the boundary or at the completion of the first run. Thank you to the HDCUA for providing these questions.

03.01.2022 The forecast isn't looking great for the weekend . Fingers crossed we get our cricket in.

03.01.2022 We are incredibly fortunate within the HDCA to have HDCUA appointed umpires able to cover many of our matches. For those of you who don't know, at the completion of a match, all HDCUA appointed umpires provide the HDCA with a report and award each side points /10 based on the way they played the game. These points are utilised to determine the Spirit of Cricket award at the end of the season. We received the following feedback yesterday from Richard McHarg, president of the H...DCUA, after scoring both sides highly. "Roughly my 60th game of umpiring" "Damian Plane, Joshua Miller and both teams should be congratulated. Will Clarke came on and bowled his one over with rousing support from both teams. Went home smiling wishing I was playing again." Congratulations to Robertson Burrawang and Mittagong Cricket Clubs for a match played in the true spirit of cricket.

02.01.2022 Another glorious day for cricket. We’d love to see all of your smiling faces, so pop your pics in the comments Remember to be sun and COVID safe today.

02.01.2022 As you may be aware, there have been 4 confirmed COVID cases within our greater community. Our focus remains on ensuring the health and safety of all HDCA members. As such, we ask that all clubs and affiliates check in with all players/officials as a matter of urgency. If anyone has been in direct contact with the pupils or staff of Moss Vale Primary Public School or Southern Highlands Early childhood Centre and are displaying any flu like symptoms (regardless of how mild) th...ey are advised not to attend any HDCA matches/training sessions etc until such time that they have received a clear COVID test result. Symptoms of COVID-19 include: fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, headache, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness. There is a new walk-in clinic at Moss Vale Showground, 16 Illawarra Highway, Moss Vale. It is open today from 10:30am 5pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9am 5pm. We would like to remind everyone at this point that COVID safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please ensure that we are all vigilant with our COVID practices. If any club believes that this will impact their ability to field a team in any matches over the weekend, please contact Jack Whitfield or Sam Nasser to discuss. In the interim, HDCA Board has determined that should any team not be able to fulfill its playing obligations on the day due to players withdrawing under COVID restrictions, then that match would be declared a draw/no result.
