25.01.2022 Good morning sailors and Friends. It is cold and light showers with a wind from the south at 10 knots Plus. There is cloud cover over the lake which means racing may be postponed. Further updates will be at 9:30 when gates open and I'll go and have a look. If it looks to be too bad by 11:30 Gates will be closed at 12 and the day cancelled Thanks M

25.01.2022 Despite exuberant optimistic enthusiasm no sailing today. If anything conditions are worse than this morning. Thwarted by the fog once again. See you Wednesday.

23.01.2022 What luck we had to get a sail in today with the sun out and wind increasing we managed the 1pm race. Race report to come. Remember AGM on 1 nov. if you would like something put on the agenda please let the committee know. Many thanks to the members who helped repair my boat today. It is this generosity of spirit and shared community that make our club so special. ... See you on the water Kylie

23.01.2022 Race report Sunday 18th October by Gary Esdaile chief handicapper. SHSC have welcomed more than 10 new members and families. We hope they will enjoy the shared community spirit at our club. Round One of the Spring Pointscore Series kicked off on Sunday. Dam water level was up to 72% from 64% the day before. ... Overcast with patches of blue sky to a low cloud base. Light breeze from the west and the water glassy and flat. Pointscores Series are always eagerly awaited by racers, particularly the Laser sailors must sail to the max to beat Tim on his Spiral which has a generous yardstick. As race time approached the wind swung to the south, still very light at the start of race one. Approaching the first mark at C the wind swung to the SE as forecast and then commenced to build as forecast to 10 knots for the remainder of the race. On the second run from C to A the fog started to roll in quickly so that by the time the last boats rounded A to work back to the finish visibility was closing rapidly. All boats got home safely by keeping the western dam wall in view as in the centre of the course compasses would have to be used to get back to the western shoreline and finish. The second Race was abandoned as the fog persisted and the wind dropped to zero. Fog is very wet. The gates were closed at 4pm. Results for Race One follow. 21.01.2022 Sunday 8/11 was cloudy bright but cold when the sun did not come out. The light cool wind was from the S- SE and varied between 3 and 8 knots. The dam was 86% full and made for easy launching and retrieving of boats. We had a good turnout with 13 catamarans and 7 monos racing. New members were on the water early in the day getting used to their new boats and the sailing conditions on the Dam so it was a very colourful scene in the rigging areas. 19.01.2022 The weather on Sunday 22nd was hot and sultry with the wind from the NNW and swinging from W to NW to SW and varying from 1-3 knots to 8 knots with stronger gusts in bursts. The best breeze was in Race 1 from A mark to the North across to B to the East to C in the South then halfway back to A mark. Light and patchy wind followed to the Finish off the Clubhouse. A surprise visitor from the South Coast was George Lemann our former Club Captain and Champion sailor who was visiti...ng his parents here. It is every catamaran sailor’s dream to sail an A Class. Trevor Brown who was ADO on the fleet rescue vessel kindly offered George his A Class for the day so he had his first taste of racing an A Class catamaran. He was wrapped in boat describing it akin to a thoroughbred out of the barrier stalls it wanted to get up and go FAST right from the get go. And this it turned out to be with George coming home first in both races sailed. (Sail number 675) Race 2 was able to be sailed when it looked as though the breeze would fade for the rest of the afternoon. Around a shorter course the wind was light and variable and here the Lasers were to the fore in the results. Marty Hyman is back at SHSC sailing his Hobie 17 for the first time. Colourful sail number 2875. Here are the results. 03.01.2022 With similar weather conditions of rain and mist predicted for tomorrow, the Safety Training Session at the club scheduled from 4pm on Wednesday 28th is cancelled. Current weather systems highly unstable at the moment, and so the risk is too great of sudden loss of visibility on the reservoir. Next scheduled Safety Training Session is Wednesday 4th November. Blue.

02.01.2022 Round 3 was sailed in sparkling warm sunshine with not a cloud in the sky and a dam 98% of capacity. We again had a terrific turnout of many new members and the boat rigging area was full to capacity. Wind was light from the NW to NNE ranging from zero to 5-7 knots with large windless holes to be navigated around or through. We even had an outgoing current along the dam wall from mark A down to the Blue start buoy in Race one. A cooling NE moved in at around 4.30pm after raci...ng had been completed. Race 1 took 68 minutes for the first home with the last home 53 minutes later just 7 minutes inside the cut off. 21 boats started and all finished. It was Laser weather and they took the places in both races. Race 2 saw 15 starters with one DNF. Wind increased a little and a shorter course was chosen due the 3.30 pm start. Here are the results.
