The event is a shot-gun start at 11.30am, so get your name on the time sheet, using either our new online book system or contact the pro shop if computationally challenged. And finally, our golf thought for the week; Friends are like therapists you can drink with! Enjoy your golf!

Thankyou All, lunch was exceptional. Then on to the yearly trophies, but I will leave this post as the winning one, and report on those important events separately. Then we had the present swap... well I for one would have to say that this was the most fun we have had with the Left Right Swap, and that Melanie outdid herself with the story that went along with the game Thankyou for your efforts Melanie, I’m sure you enjoyed the chuckles from your story too Enjoy the winners photos, and stay tuned for more posts on today’s event

The Sporters Christmas Party is the following week on 9/12/20. By the time you read this column, the parent club AGM will have been held, and the new management committee, under President Garry Russell-Sharam. The Warwick Golf Club enters into 2021 in the strongest financial ever in recent memory. Sporters Club has contributed strongly to the success of the parent club over many years, but especially over recent times, in the form of special contributions for machinery, which enhances the ability of the green staff and volunteers to present the course in the excellent condition in which it is now. Sporters club wishes the best to 2 Names and his new committee, and draw upon the words of a recent outgoing US President to his incoming successor , ‘Don’t stuff it up!’ ( that was the sentiment anyway!!) Enjoy your golf!

19.01.2022 Good luck to our club champion Kris McLennan as he plays the Queensland mens amateur at Southport golf club. He is currently inside the top 50 going into tomorrows second round. Top 50 and ties make it through to the 3rd and 4th rounds. Keep up with the score https://www.golf.org.au/events#/competition/2198740/results good luck champ

The Love Compu...ters prize for the week goes to Garry and Alec who scored an amazing 90 stableford points each for their rounds; no wait, perhaps they entered their stableford scores instead of their STROKE scores into the computer. Some blokes will do anything to win a prize!! Their prizes are copies of Bill Gates book, Computing for Dummies! This Wednesday, we play in the Warwick Hotel trophy and the following week is the September stroke round sponsored by the pro shop. With some troubling developments in the Covid 19 issue not too far away from Warwick, all members are reminded to keep their social distancing and to use the sanitizer on hand at the sign in point. And our final golf thought for the week, No shot is so bad, that you cant make the next one worse! Enjoy your golf.

18.01.2022 Last Wednesday 26/8/20, 60 members and visitors teed off in the Betta Home Living trophy for August. This week we play in the pro shop-sponsored stroke event for September and the following week in the Warwick Hotel trophy. It appears spring has finally sprung and the daytime weather over the past week, after the westerlies went, has been great. Sporters members are reminded that the Red Rooster Rumble, sponsored by Neil and Sam McCosker has been revamped under Sam the Pros watchful eye, with interesting variations in tee positions for this fun social nine hole comp on a Friday. With the clubhouse now open, a great way to spend a couple of hours followed by a cool libation on a Friday afternoon. And finally, our golf thought for the week for our slower golfers; Move just quickly enough to stop people thinking you are dead! Enjoy your golf!

06.01.2022 Spring sprung early for a day last Wednesday, with 58 members teeing off in the pro-shop sponsored stroke round for August. And our finally, our golf thought for the week; The only way to prove you are a good sport is to lose! .. Ernie Banks

Ball rundown; Keith Farrell 66, Mark Thomas/ the very unlucky Gary Adcock on 68, next were Charlie Morrison, Clive Pulley and Trevor Malone on 69, an...d tail end Charlie was Mal Galloway on 70. Trevor Malones 69 was an excellent result for an old re-tread off his 29 handicap ( not for long). This week, we play in the Betta Home Living trophy as the program returns to normal after the August cancellations, followed then by the Warwick Hotel trophy on 16/9/20. Sporters members are encouraged to participate in the Greenkeepers Day on Sunday 27 September which is a charity event for Nathan Bell, our very popular bar supervisor at the club, who is doing it pretty tough at the moment, with all proceed going towards his medical expenses. The day will a 2Ball Ambrose with an 11.30am shotgun start. Our thanks to Elders Insurance, and our greenkeeping staff who are kindly sponsoring the event. Last week, the Trevor King shortest drive award, sponsored by Cyclone Wire Fencing, saw two participants in John Porter and club captain Tony Kahler both manage to hit the separation fencing on the 1st tee with wonderful (not!) drives, so we called it a tie!. We thank both players for performing their amazing feats within sight of this columnist which makes my job all that much easier!! And a reminder for all golfers not to get complacent about the dreaded virus which is really only over the hill from us. Remember to maintain social distancing, use sanitiser and comply with the clubhouse entry rules. And finally our golfing thought for the week; Age is a issue of mind over matter; if you dont mind, it doesnt matter! Mark Twain Enjoy your golfing week.
