25.01.2022 R U OK day and national suicide prevention day was held last week. We often forget to ask our loved ones about how they really are! Got a feeling that someone you know or care about isn't behaving as they normally would?... Please ask R U OK and check in with your family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, when you see mothers with new born babies and people who are grieving. Supporting someone through a difficult time and encouraging them to get extra support is key. By starting a conversation you could help that family member, friend or work mate open up. 23.01.2022 Fears of post-pandemic ‘tsunami of health problems’ Experts worried people delaying medical tests due to coronavirus will create 'tidal wave' of diagnoses Australians are delaying lifesaving medical tests during the pandemic. Number of people attending check-ups for cancer, diabetes and asthma, and even to report chest pains, has dropped dramatically since the pandemic began.... General practice consultations and specialist check-ups for chronic disease remain down across the board amid coronavirus fear. Patients who have chronic medical problems need to have regular checks to make sure they are going well, and so waiting until COVID-19 ends might mean they can get quite sick and might even end up in hospital. Anyone who has developed any new symptoms should not wait until the pandemic was over to get medical care. Those problems need to be sorted out now because if they do wait for a very long time it may go from being a treatable condition to an untreatable condition. GPs are urging people to get check-ups stating that GP practices are "probably safer than going to your local supermarket" Read more : https://www1.racgp.org.au//gps-fear-post-pandemic-tsunami- https://www.cancer.org.au//australians-urged-to-put-cancer https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-medical-testi/12241812
22.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION - NSW Bush Fires People with any respiratory issues or who are particularly vulnerable can be the first to feel the effects of smoke which... may aggravate their existing condition. Even healthy adults and children can be impacted by the effects of heavy smoke which can result in lung irritation. These conditions can have a serious impact on your health and it is important to remember that our bodies have to work extra hard to cope or cool down. Ensure you stay hydrated and pay particular attention to any symptoms (dizziness, headaches, racing pulse or nausea) of heat related illness. Be aware of potential hazards such as embers, falling debris, damage to surroundings and reduced visibility which can cause injury. Paramedics are urging people in fire affected areas to wear any form of eyewear and lose clothing to cover your skin to assist in reducing any incidental injury. NSW Ambulance recommends if anyone sustains any form of burn they should cool the affected area immediately with water ideally running water for a minimum of 20 minutes (for eyes ensure you flush the eye) and seek medical attention. We need people to really take care of themselves. If you have a pre-existing medical condition make sure you have all your medications with you and readily available at all times. NSW Ambulance is always here to help - never be afraid to call Triple Zero (000).
