24.01.2022 A client recently called for some guidance. He had found a truck to buy from a private vendor, but it had a Security Interest registered against it with a finance company. The vendor was adamant the finance was paid out and the truck was finance-free. The client asked if there was anything I could do about it. My first advice was to not pay the vendor any money until I had a chance to look over it and to provide me with a copy of the Security Interest, which he did. My approa...ch was as follows; I checked the vendor’s ABN and ACN against the government's publicly available records for any worrying signs, as I do for all private vendors. The business status of this vendor was 'Under External Administration'; not a good thing, but manageable if you follow the right process. I advised the client to not purchase the vehicle before speaking directly to the Administrator, as they should have been aware of the transaction and agree to the sale of the truck. This provides the best chance of obtaining clear title to a vehicle, as the Administrator will ensure it is involved correctly and the financier's interest dealt with. It became apparent that the person who was trying to sell the vehicle was not the owner, but rather the person who had already purchased the vehicle from the insolvent owner. He was trying to sell the vehicle for which he had no clear title. It was also discovered that three different vehicles were connected to the same Security Interest, which brought further complexity to the deal. My client was incredibly grateful for the advice provided and has walked away from the sale. He is now looking to buy a similar truck via a dealership.

20.01.2022 This hydraulic tipper trailer was financed by the local builder. His current trailer was in dire need of repairs to pass registration at a cost that wasn't worth paying. So he decided to replace it with a hydraulic tipping trailer which gives him the added benefit of reducing his dependence on contract waste disposal hiring costs. This one needed some gentle negotiation with the lender to hold up what was already a discounted rate as the rates went up. This is a very good win for the client.

04.01.2022 A TRUE STORY! I'd like to share a story about assisting a client in saving thousands of dollars when purchasing a NEW vehicle, simply by introducing him to my car buying relationships. My client had been to a car dealer and obtained a quotation on a NEW car, along with a $10k trade-in. Luckily, he hadn't signed on the dotted line! ... Using the car buying service’s tendering process through a large network of dealerships, and with direct access to the Fleet Manager, he discovered the financial advantages and advice available. He secured a $4,500 fleet discount on the new vehicle and more importantly, earned an extra $7k for his trade-in. This represented an $11,500 savings overall. Furthermore, the car purchasing group identified an error in the dealer's calculation (in the dealer’s favour). Understandably, he was extremely happy with the outcome! As part of their concierge service, the car buying service organised the client’s new vehicle to be delivered, whilst also collecting his trade-in.
