23.01.2022 Queensland Limousin Youth Camp 2015 was a fantastic success with the most kids ever registered. Owners contributed over 100 head of young cattle for the children to learn on and every single one, both child and animal, were a credit to their breeders :) Thanks go to the organisers, volunteers and sponsors, without whom this event would be impossible. The auction of donated goods raised over $9000 to be put towards Youth Camp 2016 so be on the look-out for bigger and better next year!
23.01.2022 A lot has changed since my last post in December. Our new dam at the Wondai farm was filled with three inches of rain last week and the old existing dam replenished. The grass here hasnt wilted since 17th November and it seems every cloud passing over our place has deigned to dump something, if only a little something. For instance, yesterday afternoon when I thought I might at last be able to tackle the mowing, down came another shower. Only 1 ml but enough to re-soak the grass, which seems to never dry out anyway. I know there are plenty of folk who havent received sufficient rain to secure their properties through the drier winter months, and I can only hope their turn is coming soon.
22.01.2022 Today, we reached a life-changing decision and one we hope we wont regret. We have decided to retire from stud breeding and will focus on selling commercial bulls; perhaps show a few steers from time to time if one comes to hand. We will be retaining Membership with the society, either Commercial or Associate membership (which ever applies best) and will always take an avid interest in the progress of the breed we have loved so greatly since 1984. This year has probably been instrumental in our decision as we were forced to sell some of our breeders and still the rain hasnt come. However, 9 inches for the year really is only part of the equation. Its time for the young ones to step up to the plate now and we feel assured the Limousin breed will be in great hands. We will enjoy watching from the sidelines!
22.01.2022 Sitting quietly, ruminating over the days activities, the thought occurred to me that the kettle had been boiling for an awfully long time. Wasnt the kettle at all - lovely steady rain and exactly when we were beginning to need another drink.
21.01.2022 30 mls of rain over about three days last week has brought a green spring tinge to our country. The grass is busting to grow so if theres anyone who has more rain than they can handle, just pop it up here will yuh?
21.01.2022 32 mls of rain fell a few days ago. Very welcome but really, where is winter?
20.01.2022 Just as the grass was starting to wilt, along came 65 mls of rain. We are incredibly grateful, even if it does mean having to fix fences! We are even happier to know that the west has received some rain at last. Now we can only hope theyll get the follow-up they need.
19.01.2022 Another example of idiocy or spite? Not sure which.

16.01.2022 This is NOT a Hillsborough bull, but it sure does look like a Limo!! And the fella could still get up and run?
14.01.2022 While we were out farewelling David and Jess Eagleson as they prepare to head for Alice Springs, two and a half inches of rain dumped on our home place, filling the dam to overflowing! If this is El Nino, bring it on! Four inches previously fell on our Wondai block filling both the old and the new dams. We have been very blessed and are hoping those who have missed out will get their share very soon!
14.01.2022 I will never complain about rain! In this country, one learns to go without rain for so long every drop becomes more precious than diamonds and hearing it rattle on our tin roof is music far superior to any music I know. However, right now I wish I could give some away because so many people are still missing out! 28 mls four days ago and another 44 yesterday evening transformed both our gullies into a whitewhater rafting paradise (except one might get stuck in the pipes pas...sing under the road!) Thunder bellowed and forks of lightning sliced a moody sky for over an hour, holding us mesmerised on the veranda. The storm seemed to circle, hitting us from four different directions and about 6 lumps of hail half the size of a golf ball bounced off the roof. A few more bits of pea sized hail followed and by the time the sun had sunk, it was all over. See more
13.01.2022 The e-petition on the Parliamentary website regarding the tick line is now closed. 564 people signed it and were grateful to everyone who has offered their support in this manner as well as signing paper petitions. Now its a waiting game and we always hope for the best (a small miracle perhaps?)
13.01.2022 Hillsborough's 2017 RNA steer champions. All other exhibitors need not bother to nominate!!! :)
12.01.2022 The inaugural Limousin Blockbuster Hoof and Hook competition came to a climax yesterday at the Sundowner hotel at Haigslea where prizes were awarded to both hoof and hook winners. We were more than happy when our Reserve Champion on the hoof went on to become Reserve Champion on the hook but even happier that three Hillsborough bulls sired two of the third place carcase winners and the Reserve Champion hoof and hook winner. It is immensely satisfying to see Hillsborough bred sires doing the job in three different herds. Congratulations to all winners and place getters, not forgetting the organisers. Its events like these that do most to showcase Limousins adaptability to every market and we look forward to seeing similar events occurring more frequently.
11.01.2022 108 children and as many or more animals made this Youth Camp a true spectacle. Graeme and I would like to thank all the organisers who Ill not name for fear of missing some, the catering staff who poured their considerable talents into stuffing us tight with great food, Alan and Pat Eagleson for keeping everyone awake (not to mention sane) and sparking on all six with with their lattes, cappacinos and hot chocolates and the owners who lent animals for the kids to manage. And to the parents of the participants, youve done a wonderful job and have so much to be proud of. Your children were a credit to you all!
11.01.2022 Our 'Black Caviar' of the led steer world retained his undefeated record at the Kingaroy 2017 show on Saturday 6th May. Many fine exhibits had us wondering if he was to meet his Waterloo then but he held on and walked out with the accolades - five out of five. Blackbutt will be his final outing in the South Burnett after which he'll be able to rest on his laurels until the Ekka. That's when the rubber will really hit the road.
10.01.2022 A trip to our son Daniels wedding in Searcy, U.S paid great dividends at home and we returned to green grass. Just over two inches of rain fell while we were away, encouraging us to go away more often! Our hearts go out to those who had no rain of any description and still wait with the patience only a farmer could have. Your turn will come, hopefully sooner than later.
10.01.2022 This is the down side to having plenty of rain. Flood fences in a tangle everywhere and cattle happily chewing their cud in the neighbours pastures!
10.01.2022 Unfortunately, the bull we offered for sale seriously injured a leg fighting with other bulls and has been withdrawn from sale.
09.01.2022 Member for Nanango and Shadow Minister for Primary Industries Deb Frecklington has advised us over 1200 people signed the paper petitions asking that the tick line remain where it is with minor adjustments. This was good news. However, the apparent arrogance of the new Minister may be an issue as she has declared there will be no avenue for appeal once she has made her decision. Sadly, her level of expertise on the matter, or anything agricultural, is fuelled by the same old ...bureaucrats that is the cause of the problem in the first place. There is also an E-petition that can be found on the Queensland Parliament website which you can find at https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-ass//e-petitions So far, only 312 people have signed that so dont be shy. Its still open for business but we dont know for how much longer. If its true that tick resistance to current acaracides is growing and that there are no new chemicals in the pipeline in the foreseeable future, what does the future hold for livestock traders who have to present their cattle free of ticks in order to market them? 07.01.2022 Well, the 'blokes' have done it again! Goomeri Show brought our steer team two 1sts, two 2nds and 1 Champion and here are the some of the photos promised. Photo #1:Champion steer 'Rascal' Photo # 2: 2nd place-getter 'Arnie Swartznegger' Photo #3: 1st place-getter 'Errol' No pics of Dopey but he gained a 2nd in his class of heavy-weights.
07.01.2022 How quickly the Ekka creeps up on us! My years are measured by the Ekka and I find it incomprehensible that its upon us again! This is one of our four steers to vie for the much coveted Jackpot.

06.01.2022 GOVERNMENTS NEW TICK LINE TICKS OFF PRODUCERS. After years of struggle against an apathetic Primary Industries department and after watching many thousands of dollars of hard-earned cash pouring onto the backs of their cattle, hundreds of producers were pushed back into tick infested country simply by the casual stroke of a Government pen as of the 1st July 2016. Their careful animal husbandry techniques designed to guarantee a chemical-free product for consumers and gaine...d only at great expense has been flushed away with as much care as one flushes a dunnie but get a load of this:- Under this new legislation a person in the ticky area can load his or her tick-infested cattle onto a truck and drive them straight through the tick free area to Dinmore or other meatworks with no impost or requirements whatsoever except for an NVD. On the contrary, the poor unfortunate who resides in the tick free area immediately across the road from above-mentioned producer and who has been infected with ticks because above-mentioned producer wont maintain his fences and allows his cattle to stroll the road does not enjoy the same privileges. If he wants to take his cattle to Dinmore/other meat works, he now has to prove to DPI that he is conducting a program, hire a third-party inspector to inspect his herd at considerable cost and then purchase a permit to travel his stock on exactly the same route his ticky neighbour has just taken, free of encumbrances. Members of a certain Agricultural body that shall remain nameless denied this was the case so Graeme checked with the Stock Inspector, who confirmed it was indeed the case. He also affirmed that it was this certain Agricultural body who had come up with that idea in the first place so hows that for duplicity? This new legislation will discourage people in the tick free areas from reporting to DPI if they find ticks on their cattle, making them more likely to quietly clean up the ticks and honestly, who is going to be any the wiser? The whole thing has been designed to fail from the get-go. Within two to five years, its our guess the tick line will revert backwards to the natural 20 inch rainfall belt (which has been casually mentioned in departmental publications but not promoted) and to hell with chemical usage, residues and the dangers involved. Immune tick numbers are increasing and there may well be no more effective acaracides by that time so one supposes chemical residue will no longer be a concern?
05.01.2022 A RANT ON GOVERNMENTS PLAN TO RETRACT THE TICK LINE When we purchased our property at Tingoora 26 years ago, we were in a tick-infected region of Queensland. Shortly thereafter, we decided along with numerous graziers in the area to eradicate ticks completely and become tick free. In order to achieve this, Queensland Government insisted we receive 90% support for the project from producers who would be affected. Copious amounts of money were spent printing letters of petitio...Continue reading

03.01.2022 Graeme with our Reserve Champion on the hoof in the Limousin Blockbuster Hoof and Hook competition yesterday. Consigned to Teys with the heavy steers for the grid price of $5.40/kg dressed. A Kingaroy State High School steer placed 1st in its class and went on to sell for top price of $6/kg dressed. Now we wait for results of the hook competition!

03.01.2022 63 mls of rain in the last four days out of the most momentous thunder storms I remember ever encountering! We all, including the dog, levitated on several occasions. Not very good for anyone with a weak ticker but pure magic for the country! :)
02.01.2022 Hillsborough's troupe of four show steers have made a cracking start to the 2017 show season. 'Rascal' won 1st and Champion Steer at Proston and repeated himself at Murgon show. The other three brought home two 1sts, one 2nd and a Reserve Champion from Murgon. To top it all off, we've had sufficient rain to grow grass and the country looks a million dollars. Some dam-filling precipitation will be gratefully accepted. Pics of the steers will follow when I have some.
01.01.2022 Grand champion Wide Bay Inter School Hoof and Hook steer for 2016, owned and exhibited by Kingaroy State High School and sired by the same Hillsborough bull that sired the bigger steer in the previous pictures. I must explain that the small calf in the previous photos was sired by Greg and Denys Geysings bull Gaucho who is throwing magnificent progeny.
01.01.2022 Over five inches of rain has fallen since the we left for the States on 17th November and we are seeing one of Gods great acts of regeneration in action. Barren, parched pastures have magically transformed into a lush carpet of emerald green and if one sits quietly enough sipping coffee on the veranda, one can ALMOST hear the grass growing! Baby birds are bursting out of nests, the poinciana tree is a blaze of red and one could be forgiven for thinking they had somehow managed to die without knowing it and had arrived in heaven!
01.01.2022 Limousin win 6 out of 8 broad ribbons on the hook at Sydney Royal but missed out on Grand Champion. The Stan Hill Memorial Perpetual Trophy for the interbreed group of three carcases was once again won by Limousin. Limousin steers topped the market in each weight range at the Sydney Royal Show steer auction.... A Limousin from Jeremy and Philippa Walsh, Ruby Park Limousins, Dubbo, and Don and Sarah Riley, Oakvale Limousins, Tamworth, was the overall top priced steer selling for 1625c/kg or$6,289 to Tender Value Meats at Hornsby. MARYVALE NATIONAL JUNIOR LIMOUSIN SHOW The entry forms and scholarship information are now available on the Limousin website for the Maryvale National Junior Limousin Show. Go to the Limousin website and navigate to Youth, Coming Events to access the forms or find them listed with the event in the main calendar of events on the Limousin website. 01.01.2022 This post is a bit late coming but as they say better late than not at all. Our Hillsborough team of steers did us proud at Ekka this year and no, we didnt win the Jackpot. In fact, we barely made it to the front line on the hoof, except in one class, but two of of the boys got a 3rd place and 4th position in the carcase competition. The remaining three were all to be found in the top half of the hook results sheet. Most surprising of all the heavy muscled steer, which we t...hought would be flat out getting enough cover, was the one to take 3rd place. Just goes to show, never judge a book by its cover. We dont ever really know whats under that hide. Another momentous decision has been made in the last few weeks too. We have decided we will no longer keep bulls unless someone specifically asks. Our intention now is to play with steers and save ourselves the humbug broken legs, gates and fences. None of those events occur frequently thankfully, but we buried a bull the other day who had obviously got himself badly positioned during a scrap and had his back leg broken above the hock. Our Hillsborough website will, eventually, be decommissioned, when I remember to do it but we will hold on to our Face Book page.
