23.01.2022 We would like to welcome our new release wines to centre stage including our brand new Rose’ ! It’s been a busy couple of months post harvest, and our recently bottled 2020 Verdelho and 2020 Rose’ ( Vermentino/Chambourcin) are now ready for purchase! The Verdelho is fresh and zesty, expressing pine lime citrus and mineral notes with a lovely soft finish... The Rose is a stunner - carefully crafted and aromatic wine with fragrant strawberry and boysenberry notes, notable sweetness and a gorgeous fresh fruity glow With the challenges of Covid-19 and the cellar door we collaborate with having to close recently, we are working with postal and local delivery options - so please get in touch with us to see which option works best for you
22.01.2022 This weekend we reached a significant milestone in this years vintage We hit veraison!!!! ..... 3 weeks earlier than the previous record.... which might mean a Christmas harvest ( ) our 2020 vintage may start in 2019! We have a smidgen of water left, but no fires which is such a relief. At least we can clean the bottom of the dam which has never been empty before ... Our local guardians (aka the resident magpie family) are still on guard even even in the heat Our grapes are looking fantastic!!!!! .... the lorikeets have found us hence netting in November The great news is that some of the hardships are going to evolve into a flavour bomb for our fruit .... watch this space
21.01.2022 A quick introduction of a couple of the farm ladies ...... Meet Fergie - the 60 yo Massey Ferguson workhorse. Fergie plods around with dad and does what she can, when she can, at her pace. She has just got her Australia Day pressie - a bit of TLC, a filter change, a spot of welding and a bit of patch’em up work on her roof and seat. Also meet our new little visitor. ... Little miss fluffy ears hasn’t got a name yet, but this little lady is looking good considering that many trees have died around her. We have a water trough out for all the wildlife, complete with little safety ramps so even the smallest can get a drink and be safe. As for rain, we missed the storms unfortunately and ended up with a little sprinkle to bring a welcome green tinge to the bare paddocks. Up the road was a bit luckier - they got our entire rainfall for last year in 1 week!
19.01.2022 Our peach blossom is giving us a sneaky peek that Spring is not too far away ...

15.01.2022 It’s that time of year again! Testing juice parameters in preparation for harvest to ensure the fruit is picked at the optimum time We pick all of our fruit by hand - great wine can only come from high quality grapes! We selective pick, which means retaining only the best bunches to begin the winemaking process. Most years we can estimate harvest like clockwork by looking at the ripening cues.... this year, well let’s say Mother Nature is playing her cards close to her chest... and has her poker face on. #getthebaumeright #onlythebestwilldo
14.01.2022 Today’s garden find - Blue Bummed Bees ... ok, they are actually called Blue Banded Bees (Amegilla cingulata) but ‘bummed’ is what I googled This little fella ( it’s a boy as he only has 4 blue bands) is native to Australia. They are solitary bees and dont need a hive. The males cling to a drooping branch or stem to sleep by holding on with their jaw, while the females make a nest-for -one in soft rock or clay ... These bees use ‘buzz pollination’ - a different method where they shake their bee-hind in the flower to release hard to get at pollen, and are a valuable pollinator in any garden or fruit orchard. These native bees are attracted to blue/purple/pink flowers predominantly, and this little fella was taking full advantage of the pink rose growing tangled up in the comfrey ( purple flower) in the herb garden.

08.01.2022 This vintage should be bottled by the name of ‘Challenge Another week of over 40 degrees everyday ahead. Nets on as all the birds are now ‘hangry’... Our new vines are out performing all expectations, all cropping well and surprising us all the way Ground is parched, everything is thirsty in this drought, but vines are tough. Only 25% of our annual rainfall this year Flavours will be so rich by the time harvest comes.... something to look forward to!
08.01.2022 A heartwarming find near the vineyard today. After the recent devastation to the koala population from the bushfires, this little guy plays a big part in their future

05.01.2022 Budburst..... vintage ‘21 off to a fantastic start
04.01.2022 Rain.... one word that means so much. Over the last couple of weeks we have received our normal February rainfall.... It was also more rain than we have received during the entire year of 2019 with the drought. ... The land has responded, everything now bursting to life - a full dam, green as far as the eye can see The air is now clean, no smoke haze or dust coating everything. Not drought breaking by a long way but a very welcome relief Green and blue hues filling our sight A few before and after shots - just weeks apart
02.01.2022 What’s this stuff???? Omg it’s water running into the dam from a surprise storm!!!
01.01.2022 Well that’s a wrap!!! 2020 vintage harvest is done and dusted!! No need to check your calendars, and no you haven’t slept in, vintage arrived super early this year. We are one of the lucky ones to get a crop off - mind you, the hard work from the Hillsdale crew over the last few months to keep things going in this drought has been a monumental effort - thanks guys!!
