24.01.2022 CITRUS CARE IN SUMMER If you have any of the citrus varieties like lemons, oranges, limes, grapefruit, mandarins etc. you must take care of your trees NOW! This years fruits are growing now, so you must keep the trees well watered. If you dont most of the fruit will fall off now while immature and the rest will be undersized and unpalatable.... To produce a good crop of fruit, citrus need full sun all day long. The minimum amount of sunlight is 6 hours per day. If you notice small match-head sized lumps on the trunks of your citrus, or even if you see tiny white spots that look like dessicated coconut, spray the tree with Eco Oil to kill off the scale insects that cause the lumps. Eco Oil is a harmless oil made from canola plants. CITRUS care is needed now if you want good fruit later on. Hooroo

12.01.2022 BEST XMAS BUSH For a real Aussie Xmas you must have some red NSW Xmas bush flowers in the garden and inside the house in vases. But which are the best NSW Xmas bush varieties?... In my opinion, the best two are Red, Red, Red & Alburys Red. Both of these are neat and compact bushes with excellent red flower colour. Red Red Red is the better variety in my view. Xmas bushes appreciate extra watering. In the bush they always grow near to creeks, rivers or areas where water runs through during rainy periods. Xmas bushes love a bit of blood & bone fertiliser and well drained soils. They grow well in large pots or tubs and will tolerate up to a days shade. A light annual pruning after flowering is a good idea. The cut flowers of the NSW Xmas bush last for 2 weeks or more inside the house, but I rarely pick mine as they look so good in the garden.
