10.01.2022 Our property is literally overrun with bugs, insects, spiders and thats FANTASTIC. Once you realise these macro Arthropods are crucial to the Soil Food Web an...d in turn the nutrient cycle its a good sign to see paddocks in Spring covered in spider webs. The overuse of insecticides in chemical agriculture is akin to bringing a Nuclear bomb to a neighbourly dispute....in the end the whole neighborhood is destroyed. The irony is they use systemic insecticides to attack one or two insects. The biggest culprit in the Adelaide Hills is the attack on red legged earthmites. Most farmers stick to a biannual spraying to control RLEM but they destroy EVERY other insect in the process. Sheer Stupidity. We REFUSE to polute our property with insecticides but rather use biodiversity of plants that offers a variety of homes for all the insects. And funnily enough we have seeded at least 4 types of clovers and see minimal attack by red legged earth mites. Super healthy legumes growing without any RLEM spraying. Why because something else comes along and devours them. It forms part of the food chain or soil food web. Have you noticed the decline of bugs on your windscreen?? Ask a farmer to stop spraying insecticides, Nuking our paddocks is NOT the answer. See more
