We are definitely overwhelmed with all your calls this week, due to the lifting of some government restrictions. Of course we will be opening this Friday and looking forward to seeing you all...just not all at once ... As you are aware, phase 1 allows restaurants to seat up to 10 ppl at a single time. To make this work and safe for everyone we will be taking bookings for three seating times: 5pm to 6:30pm 6:30pm to 8pm 8pm to 10pm Of course these will need to be made under bookings. 15.01.2022 FOODIE FRIDAYS #4: Blown Away @ Kafenes, Enmore What I love about eateries is the immediate impact you get when you enter a great one! There is such a great sen...se of relief you have made the right choice to eat there. And Philipas and Maria Trians iconic, Kafenes, at Enmore is just one of those eateries that just blow you away!!! As soon as you see the wide range of foods on offer at the counter window, you are gobsmacked!!! And this does not include all the grilled foods!!! What a menu!!! From a very young teenager, Philippas has been working in tavernas and restaurants in Greece; and he ran tavernas, reception lounges, gyradika- and a few at the same time- so his delicious meals and high quality service is steeped in a long life-story of knowledge and experience. In Australia, Phillipas and Maria ran the kitchen at Megas Alexandros Club, Marrickville (1988- 1991) and the Sydney Olympic Club, Hurlstone Park, and Philippas worked as a chef in restaurants such as Enigma and Lazy Lobster, Brighton Le Sands, and Paros, Newtown. When the opportunity arose to open a Greek taverna in Enmore in 2003, Philippas and Maria took it; the inspiration to name their new eatery, Kafenes, came from listening to Manos Loizos song, Exo Enan Kafene, which was made famous by Giorgos Dalaras. They wanted people to have a tavern they felt so comfortable that they could call home so Philippas and Maria had an immediate smash hit!!! Subsequently, Kafenes played such an important part of Enmores revival as a busy strip of restaurants and cafes. For a few years (2008-2011), Enmore Road and Kafenes Taverna were so busy that Philippas and Maria extended their taverna with the next doors premises. Over the years, eateries have come and gone along Enmore Road but Kafenes Taverna remains vibrant and busy in the heart of Enmore. Asked about Kafenes secret behind its success, Philippas humbly explains, Kafenes is a taverna where we prepare and serve simple, tasty homemade Greek food- we take so much care with our meals that we treat our customers as if they are eating at our home. It is an authentic Greek menu and our customers appreciate this. There have been times where I have tried to make changes to our menu and so many customers asked for the meals I had taken off that I had to reintroduce them again. People just want tasty food, and we provide them good, authentic tastes of Greece. And how does a restaurateur, or taverniari, achieve such authenticity in their meals, Philippas pojnts out, Growing up in Greece, all those tastes and aromas became part of you over the years, and you learn and develop recipes that reflect all your experiences as a chef. So many of customers have visited Greece and have returned home with these same tastes and aromas I grew up with, and it is no wonder when they eat our meals that they are transported back to Greece. 07.01.2022 Our Covid-19 Update Whilst we do not want to add to the challenging times everyone is facing with Covid-19, we have received a number of enquiries in relation to our operating days/times. As announced by the PM any indoor gatherings of more than 100 people have been banned, Kafenes premises is not that big, therefore we are currently operating as per usual business hours. ... With the maximum capacity of 80 people, we do fall within the guidelines, however we want to ensure we protect members of our community so we will ensure to limit the patrons to the maximum of 50 people allowing a safe distance between the tables. During these challenging times we want to ensure our customers feel safe and comfortable visiting us. Your health and safety is our priority not just now but at all times, and we thank you for all your support throughout the years.
