15.01.2022 Hillwood Berries Farmgate (aka the Berry Farm) have a TFS permit to burn off all the native vegetation that they recently wiped out between the East Tamar Highway and Hillwood Road and it looks like the thick smoke will be continuing to blanket the area for another week according to their fire permit. It's very difficult to support a local business when you can't find them in the smoke! FYI this information has not been supplied by the Berry Farm. EDIT - This is not a controlled burn off to reduce the potential fire hazard in a bush setting - there should be more of them! The fires being burnt in Hillwood is from the burning of cleared land that was cleared solely for commercial purposes.

13.01.2022 Could you or someone you know take advantage of this offer?

10.01.2022 Temporary speed detectors are coming to Hillwood The Hillwood Progress Association Inc (HPA) represents your area on the George Town Council Safety Committee. They have been lobbying to get the speed limits reviewed primarily to get some consistency on our roads. The Council has commissioned an independent traffic management consultant to investigate and at the Safety Committee Meeting this week, an update was given that there will be speed detectors placed on Leam Road, Johnstons Road and Hillwood Jetty Road temporarily. They do not record individual vehicle details but are used to aggregate the speeds. Once the report has been finalised, the HPA has been assured that there will be community consultation before recommendations are sent to the State Department of Growth.

06.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came along to the George Town Council Roadshow last Thursday morning hosted by the Hillwood Progress Association. It was very informative and we look forward to the next Roadshow in six months time. "Dear Progress Associations, On behalf of the Mayor, myself and Management we would like to thank you for your hospitality and attendance at Council’s roadshow.... Council looks forward to the roadshows and it was a pleasure to have Inspector Mollineaux, Senior Sergeant Groves and FILT representative Jason Orr attend and speak on the great work and initiatives for the municipality. Your feedback on all the different issues that concern your community were all noted down and Management will follow up on those requests. As stated, if you have any concerns that you didn’t get to raise or thought of after the roadshow please, send Council a service request or call or email Louise to arrange an appointment to speak to either the Mayor and/or myself. We all live in a beautiful place of the municipality and we look forward to a progressive, prosperous and proud future. Kind Regards, Shane Power General Manager George Town Council"

06.01.2022 Courtesy of the RFDS It was 60 years ago today that the first official Royal Flying Doctor Service Tasmania flight in the north of the state was made from Launceston Airport, Western Junction, to Flinders Island. The pilot on that inaugural flight (which was made at night and would have required islanders to light flares to mark out the runway) was Tasmanian Aero Club chief flying instructor Neil Beattie (dec).... In a wonderful gesture to celebrate our 60th anniversary, Neil's wife Margaret presented his original log books, which includes that first flight, and she's pictured here with another pilot of that era and an RFDS stalwart, Lindsay Millar. RFDS Tas was formed on September 12, 1960 and the first flight from the south was on September 14 to Queenstown and the first flight from the north on September 19. We are so proud to have been covering Tasmania with care for the past 60 years and thanks to wonderful Federal and State government and community support we hope to be around for another 60!

03.01.2022 Today is the day! 6pm tonight Sue and Dallas shut up shop for the last time and hand us, Travis and Sarah, the keys. We're super excited to take on this venture, and provide you with the same amazing service you've all come to know and love over the years.

03.01.2022 Happy Father's Day

03.01.2022 REGISTER YOUR INTEREST - WEEDS ACTION FUND The next round of the state-wide Tasmanian Weeds Action Fund is on its way. The fund takes a strategic and targeted ...approach to tackling high priority weeds. A small grants round is set to open in spring. Please register your interest ONLINE and NRM North will be in contact with you when the guidelines are released. https://nrmnorth.org.au/land/weeds-action-fund/ These images are of orange hawkweed (Pilosella aurantiaca subsp. aurantiaca).
