18.01.2022 When the conch (Shankha) is blown, the primal sound of Om emerges. Om is the sound that was emanated by God before creation of the universes. The conch (sankha) is one of the attributes of Lord Vishnu. It is said that once a demon name Sankhasura harassed the Demigods and stole the Vedas and hid himself in an ocean. Lord Visnu incarnated as a huge golden fish ie Matsya Avatar and killed the demon. After this the Lord is supposed to have blown the conch- shaped bone of the e...ar of Sankhasura. From this, arose the sound Om and from this sound emerged the Vedas. The conch is therefore known as sankha after Sankhasura. The conch of Lord Vishnu or Lord Krishna is called the Pancajanya. It represents dharma or righteousness, which is one of the four objectives (purusarthas) of human life. The sound of the conch also symbolises the victory of the good over the evil. During the ancient times, conches would be also blown before the start of a battle. Via Isckon

10.01.2022 Happy Pongal What is the Pongal festival? The term 'Pongal' is derived from Tamil literature which means 'to boil'. It is an ancient festival of South India, particularly Tamils. It is basically a harvest festival which is celebrated for four-day-long in Tamil Nadu in the month of January-February (Thai) during the solar equinox after harvesting of crops like rice, sugarcane, turmeric, etc.... Pongal festival is a four-day celebration affair. Each day marked by different festivities- First day is called the Bhogi festival; Second day is called Thai Pongal; the Third day is called Mattu Pongal; the Fourth day is called Kaanum Pongal. Why is Pongal celebrated? According to Hindu Scripts, Lord Shiva once asked Basava (Bull) to visit on the Earth and ask the Human to have an oil massage and bath every day. But Basava (Bull) announced that eat daily and have an oil bath once a month. This makes Lord Shiva furious and he cursed the Basava (Bull) to live on the Earth forever and said that Basava (Bull) has to plow the fields and help people produce more food. Hence, people after harvesting celebrate this festival with crops and cattle. Importance of the Pongal It is basically a harvesting festival or it can be considered as the 'thanksgiving' festival' because this festival is celebrated to thank the Sun God and Lord Indra for helping farmers in getting better-yielding crops. During the festival, people reject old belongings and welcome new stuff. Significance of the Pongal As we know that India is an agricultural country and the majority of the festivals are inclined towards nature. Just like another festival, the Pongal is referred to as Uttarayan Punyakalam which bears special significance in Hinduism and is considered extremely auspicious.

02.01.2022 Padmini Ekadashi (27/9/2020) Significance of Padmini Ekadashi :-... Lord Vishnu is mainly worshipped on Ekadashi. Like every other Hindu festival, on this day also devotees get up early in the morning and after taking a bath, perform puja of Lord Vishnu where they offer sacred food (Prasad), incense sticks, sandalwood paste, and flowers to the deity. . . Some devotees observe a strict fast and refrain from the consumption of food and water. Devotees recite Vishnu Purana and various mantras to please the deity and break the fast in Parana. . . Story of Padmini Ekadashi . . In Treta Yuga, there was a king named Kitravirya. He had many queens, but none of them was able to give him a son. So, with a desire to have a child, the king and his queens went to the forest and started performing penance. In the forest, queen Padmini once approached Anusuya and described their plight and agony. Anusuya suggested queen Padmini observe Ekadasi during the Adhika month to propitiate Lord Vishnu who will clear their sins and bless them with a child. . . Queen Padmini observed strict fast, and throughout the night she kept vigil listening to the glories of Lord Vishnu. Pleased with this, Lord Vishnu blessed him with a son. Thus, it is believed that this Ekadashi is named after Padmini, the Queen of King Kartavirya. . . . Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya . . . . . Happy Padmini Ekadashi dear brothers and sisters . . . . . Like, comment and share this information with your friends and family
