21.01.2022 This is Thornbury resident Eleni Aivatzis. She remembers music being a wonderful way to pass the time while on the farm. "Whatever the song, I sing it. I don’t ...care who has written it, if I like it, I sing along. "I started singing from a young age. "We would go work on the farms and we had nothing to do, so we would sing. "It’s stayed with me." Her song request: https://www.youtube.com/watch Eleni is one of seven residents who have shared their musical memories over this week following World Music Day (21 June 2020).

20.01.2022 HAPPY NAMEDAY XRONIA POLLA TO THE MOST POPULAR GREEK NAME THERE IS GEORGE YIORYOS GIORGIO GEORGINA GEORGIA GIA GINA St george!!!! The most famous leg...end of Saint George is of him slaying a dragon. In the Middle Ages the dragon was commonly used to represent the Devil. The slaying of the dragon by St George was first credited to him in the twelfth century, long after his death. It is therefore likely that the many stories connected with St George's name are fictitious. There are many versions of story of St George slaying the dragon, but most agree on the following: A town was terrorised by a dragon. A young princess was offered to the dragon When George heard about this he rode into the village George slayed the dragon and rescued the princess The Legend of St. George and the Dragon St GeorgeSt. George travelled for many months by land and sea until he came to Libya. Here he met a poor hermit who told him that everyone in that land was in great distress, for a dragon had long ravaged the country. 'Every day,' said the old man, 'he demands the sacrifice of a beautiful maiden and now all the young girls have been killed. The king's daughter alone remains, and unless we can find a knight who can slay the dragon she will be sacrificed tomorrow. The king of Egypt will give his daughter in marriage to the champion who overcomes this terrible monster.' When St. George heard this story, he was determined to try and save the princess, so he rested that night in the hermit's hut, and at daybreak set out to the valley where the dragon lived. When he drew near he saw a little procession of women, headed by a beautiful girl dressed in pure Arabian silk. The princess Sabra was being led by her attendants to the place of death. The knight spurred his horse and overtook the ladies. He comforted them with brave words and persuaded the princess to return to the palace. Then he entered the valley. George slaying the dragon see pic. As soon as the dragon saw him it rushed from its cave, roaring with a sound louder than thunder. Its head was immense and its tail fifty feet long. But St. George was not afraid. He struck the monster with his spear, hoping he would wound it. Fstival of History The dragon's scales were so hard that the spear broke into a thousand pieces. and St. George fell from his horse. Fortunately he rolled under an enchanted orange tree against which poison could not prevail, so that the venomous dragon was unable to hurt him. Within a few minutes he had recovered his strength and was able to fight again. St George fights the dragon with his sword He smote the beast with his sword, but the dragon poured poison on him and his armour split in two. Once more he refreshed himself from the orange tree and then, with his sword in his hand, he rushed at the dragon and pierced it under the wing where there were no scales, so that it fell dead at his feet. 13.01.2022 Part 2. My Birthday party on Saturday night. I had to rush out for the last three hours due to meetings I had but want to finish my story and thanks to people! A huge big thank you to my cousin Anna Marendy (more like a big sister to me) and her committee at the Hippocrates centre 30 Crebert St Mayfield East who put on the magnificent spread we all enjoyed and worked tirelessly for days to get tables food and bar ready. Yes it does help when the President of the association ...is your cousin but its this sort of things the centre does at a cost to raise money for the Multicultural nursing home we (I am also part of this wonderful worthwhile organisation ). Money well spent, Thank you, Anna and committee Luv you dearly cuz not only for what you did the other night but what you have done throughout my life! So many people to thank the other night you were one I forgot to mention. XXX See more

07.01.2022 What an honour to be asked to be Master of Ceremonies at the 23rd Hippocrates Gala Ball! The Hippocrates Australian/Greek Aged Persons Association is a local fu...ndraising organisation that was established in 1992 with the aim of building an Aged Care Facility open to all, in particular people from multicultural backgrounds. This dream was realised, but the fundraising continues to support the local community. Well done for another fabulously organised evening! Of course, a special shout out to Hippocrates President Anna Mareny and Secretary Noula Hicks for the years of dedication to this wonderful cause. Well done!
